BBC said:
A man who shot Indian student Anuj Bidve in the head has been convicted of his murder at Manchester Crown Court.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, denied murder but had admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He will be sentenced on Friday.

Brian Cummings QC, prosecuting, said the starting point for a murder using a firearm was 30 years in prison.

Watching the story on NW tonight ---nothing he will get in prison is too bad for this person.

But it will be TV, games of pool , etc.

Still likely to be locked up on his own for 20+ hours a day.

Listening to this extract from his interview is interesting. In the days before PACE and taped interviews the hamster comment would probably have cost him a few teeth.

He tried 3 angles to reduce responsibility/sentencing. I'm sure he's not going to love prison. IMO this sort of person is all show to make up for their own inadequacies - a bully. They like to talk tough, but they're actually weak, resorting to lashing out when something is not going their way. A tougher person can deal with life's ups and downs without ruining every one else's around them.

Hope he hates every minute of it.

Indeed. I'm not one to wish violence on anyone.

But I hope he has a super time in prison over the next 30+ years.

The kind of super time that I hope prison staff turn a blind eye to due to under staffing and a need to "learn lessons from process failures at point of delivery"...

Sadly I suspect he won't be in prison for anything like 30 years, still with a bit of luck he won't be able sit down comfortably for 30 years after that.

Sadly with our current system you are right - probably 15-20 years.

Shame we can't outsource it to G4 and have them sub it to one of these:

He's already fked up some guy in prison whilst on remand, poured a bucket of hot water and sugar over his head then attacked him with a snooker ball in a sock. Sounds like a really nasty piece of work.

He probably is pretty smug really. He'll be out in his early-mid 30s with attendant mythology of how he killed someone for no reason, and he's not someone to mess with blah blah blah.

Should have been life meaning life, if not the death penalty.

he's shackled up in a cell most of the time with minimum time out due to the trouble he's already caused

Well seeing as the sentence is 30 years minimum AMD you don't get early release then I don't think he will be 30. But gloss over all the facts and make up your own stuff.

Does that actually mean he'll serve it though?

I find it strange then that it took him till now to shoot someone... is there much history of this stuff on him?

Tony Argent, gunned down Paul Edmonds;

http://www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/news/court-crime/m...

Appeal denied, must serve his minimum sentence (20years) before being eligible for parole.

Jack Whomes and Mick Steele;

http://www.thisistotalessex.co.uk/Rettendon-murder...

Appeal denied.

Given his lack of remorse or compassion, his attitude towards the court, etc I doubt Stapleton will be out any time soon.

I'm not an advocate of the death penalty but watching the speach that his Dad made and hearing of his behavior while in custody and in court has brought tears to my eyes and made me so angry that right now all I can think about is that this piece of slime being dead would be a good thing.

A man like this doesn't deserve the privelege of any sort of life.
