I understand the workload on an 86 yr old but most 86yr olds don't have servants, drivers, chefs, pa's etc. it's not like she spent the last 50 yrs cooking and cleaning either.

I'm a royalist but she isn't your average 86yr old.

She never really looks like a barrel of laughs to me.

At her age I'm not surprised she wasn't smiling being up that late. My grandfather is the same age and he's a miserable tt most of the time too.

Anyway, this made me laugh

I do think things might just be a bit different and somewhat improved if she could declare "off with their heads" once in a while.
It'd help keep the scrounger population down.

There were news reports of her walking around the site yesterday, meeting people, and she was smiling and laughing. Maybe she was just very tired on the night of the ceremony?

How would you feel, you turn up top the party with Daniel Craig, the car keys go into the pot and you end up going home with Phil the Greek!

There is a Royal protocol that decrees senior Royals display 'neutral' public emotion. The reason being that if they show outward delight at one event and less so at another, then then much could be misread into the latter even though on that day, they might simply be feeling a bit under the weather.

I think her willingness to take part in that Bond thing kind of demonstrates that she's far from dour.

Indeed. She's supposed to look "regal", not like some f***ing weathergirl.

I head something on the radio this morning that suggested a James Bond feature of some sort was her idea.

I think it was great that she did that....can imagine Wills and Harry egging her on! Good on her, whatever her motivations.

As for her looking miserable, I thought it was poor form of the editor showing her looking at her nails as Team GB came in. She might well have been the other size of the stadium at the time, looking at some random country she has less interest in.

She was there for 3 hours or so. For those moaning about her not smiling, can you confirm that she didn't smile or nod or seem interested for any of that 3 hours?

No?

Thought not.

The only downer - shouldn't somebody have told the Queen to smile, just for a couple of seconds while she was on camera? She looked miserable as sin.
You expect her to grin like a loon for the entire four hour ceremony? There were probably cameras pointing at her for the entire event.

If I won Euromillions, you could still probably snap a photo of me on the evening looking a bit grumpy. Thats my normal look.

On another unrelated issue - does anyone else think The Queen keeps Prince Phillip around so she can tell him to say things she can't say herself. "Go on Phillip, ask if they still throw spears at each other" "Do it or I'll send you down a Parisian tunnel"

Erm, the clue is in my post. She's a massive potential PR benefit to this country (and has proved that for many years), but at the jubilee concert and the opening ceremony she looked miserable when on camera. As I said in my original post (and at the risk of getting flamed again), couldn't somebody responsible for PR have prodded her when the TV cameras were on her and suggested she at least pretended she was enjoying herself and was proud of what was being presented? I'm sure she was tired, or unwell or similar and we can all sympathise with that, I think the failing is with the PR people and the TV people, not with her maj as I certainly don't expect her to grin inanely for 3 or 4 hours.

There's probably thousands of photos of her smiling at that event.

Some picture editor has just chosen to publish one of her looking grumpy.

Err, do you have the first clue how silly what you have just said is? Do you honestly think her "PR Person" has an earpiece, into which every camerman and screen editor is yelling "...and cutting to her Maj in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GO!" so that said PR Person can nudge her Maj to be ready with a smile each time?

As I said above, its the editors choice - they should really have cut to her when she was looking more interested, IMO.

I was particularly referring to the TV coverage, but I do think you'll struggle to find a picture of her in this dress where she is actually smiling...
