Arrested? For what?
I'm not even sure what he said was malicious or abusive, insensitive and ignorant perhaps.

For being a weapons grade...

Seriously though, what on earth did he think gave the right to even think about making a comment like that, leave alone committing it to text.

so what he tweeted was:

"You let your dad down i hope you know that."

is that really a 'menacing communication' (which is what he's been arrested for sending)?

I wouldn't say so. where is the menace?

bad decision by the police imo. their fathers are probably disappointed too.

it's more menacing than that though... do we really want people being prosecuted just for saying/writing stuff? I don't think so.

Well it's good to know that people aren't being violently robbed in the streets and people are no longer breaking into houses or cars and nicking those things that we worked hard to purchase.

Jeez, I didn't think it was necessary for him to be arrested- Although reading his Twitter feed yesterday he was dishing out some truly vile abuse...

I see they have editted out what he was going to do.

There was some knifing, stabbing, killing and other bits going on with his feed.

Tom Daley gets adulation left, right and centre.

Is he really such a delicate flower that he can't ignore one idiot?

Being arrested is one thing. Being charged is another.

I think it is the modern equivalent of the old "clip around the ear" by the local Bobby.

Maybe it will serve as a bit of a detterent to others who may be considering hurling abuse at competitors in the Olympics - especially British ones who have more competituive events ahead of them.

And also a little message telling keyboard idiots that they can be easilly traced and are not as anonymous as they might think.

Maybe he is ignoring him. That's not the point.

The threats to kill someone else on twitter over this were slightly more serious

The guy who tweeted is an idiot.

But, IMO, so is the person who made the decision to arrest him.

The whole situation has got out of hand.

But isn't this the world that everyone wanted? A world that had no barriers and we could say what we want to who we want, without fear and reprisal? And haven't we rather followed the path that there are no standards?

Isn't this the same as wandering round an airport with a tshirt saying "fk YOU" in big letters? "Hey, it's my right to do this!" The idea that if you are offended, then you are the one with the problem?

Lots of rights, but not a lot of responsibilities.
