Can't work this guy out - seems to be a walking PR disaster but his own seem to love him.
What's the view?

He does have the amazing ability to make GW Bush look good. From the postings I've read on the few US forums I visit, I think he's popular among republicans because he's (a) a republican and (b) not a democrat, much like we have many who would vote for a scarecrow if it had the right rosette pinned to it. Politics over there seems even more tribal than over here, which does make me wonder about the effects of the impending annihilation of the Lib Dems and it's consequences for the UK.

Just about all of the above. Sounds perfectly qualified to be President then. US voters aren't always keen on overly clever presidential candidates.

Reading about his recent visits to Poland, Israel and his criticisms on Russian and the UK I fear this guy is pretty dangerous. Too quick to criticise and too judgemental without the facts.
I really know very little about US politics but feel this guy will not serve the US well.
What is his foreign policy? To Piss every one off?

The god news is that most of these guys calm down onec they achieve office - if they achieve office, of course,
Much the same was said about Reagan and about Bush Jnr.
Reagan was a canny old fox and played the "Aw shucks" style to perfection. Bush Jnr was less proficient was was perhaps one of the worst US Presidents ever. Pity he was in power for America's most traumatic moments since World War 2 and Vietnam.

I think he is clever enough to be the front man for those who paid for his campaign. What more does any American president have to do?

Dangerous ideas he hasn't thought through.
We can only hope he doesn't get the job because if he does I think he might be worse even than George W.

I have just been reading up on him as I thought he was a Mormon. He appears to have an affiliation with the Church of Latter Day Saints.
Some piece on how he had a car accident with the President of the Mormon church's wife who died, made my John Grisham/James Patterson ears prick up.

What is his foreign policy? To Piss every one off? Sounds like most PH'ers. I'm sure Garlick has him on his famous people to approach list.

Lady Muck said: What is his foreign policy? To Piss every one off? American voters don't give a toss about foreign policy in the main. They were talking about Romneys "gaffes" on Newsnight last night and whilst the US based commentators they were interviewing agreed he put his foot in his mouth, they both stated that FP isn't even in the top 10 issues American's care about. The lady from the right wing think tank they had on was laying into Kirsty Wark quite heavily about it Still, Romney is in my view an insular, homophobic religious nut and I hope against hope that America doesn't put him in the oval office come November.

Having just returned from america after a week...its all about the economy stupid. Low taxes, more business and that is it.
Having a background in business means he can navigate the corporate circus...and that is where the money is.
Foreign policy is not a big deal..everyone knows the world courts the USA...so its not really a big deal for the presidential election.

FP never used to be a problem, but with discussions about the dollar and, already, some major currencies circumventing the greenback for forex, the world is a different place. Then there's the issue of them playing "Team America World Police" and the need to engage constructively with the rest of the planet becomes more pressing. All IMHO.
