The reasons for having or not having ID are irrelevant. The fact is 3 times as many black people don't have ID when compared to white people.
How exactly can one come up with a number if they don't have them.

Newbie question - why do the political parties need so much money to promote themselves in America? Is it simply because there is no cap?

Romney was caught out in a huge lie today and had to be slapped down by Chrysler.

At an event last night in Defiance, Ohio Willard claimed that he had read "a story online" that Chrysler were
going to close the local Jeep factory and ship the jobs to China (something Romney actually knows a lot about).

Chrysler were quick to issue a statement denouncing slippery Mitt's latest whopper and confirming that “a careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments.” rofl "Fantasies and extravagant comments" just about sum up the tissue of lies that constitute the Romney campaign.

Think about what local Jeep employees must have felt hearing Romney tell them erroneously and totally irresponsibly that their jobs were all about to disappear. What an utter cock.

The reality is that Jeep and Chrysler generally are doing very well since being rescued by the Obama auto bail out and reinvigorated by Fiat. They are doing so well that they are opening extra production facilities in China to help deal with demand from what is the fastest growing market in the world. In actual fact Chrysler announced 1100 new jobs in Toledo the same day that Romney was spouting his lies. But of course he didn't mention that, good news on the economy is of no interest to this man who wanted to let GM and Chrysler go bust.

Meanwhile in Freeport IL workers at Sensata were threatening a walkout after being harassed and threatened by managers at the Bain owned plant. The Bain owned Sensata is shipping American jobs overseas to China after forcing the American workers to train their Chinese replacements in spite of being a profitable plant. No surprise that Romney was making up lies about Chrysler in an attempt to deflect attention from that story!

Dont be an arse all the time Unrep. Everybody tries to buy elections, its how American politics has run for the last 100yrs. On both sides.
Who was the last person to pitch $100 million into a capaign who wasn't actually running?

Nobody does that without serious personal motivation and it's very unhealthy because they expect payback.
fk know, fk cares. The amount is irrelevent, 50m is the same as 100m is the same as 10m for the intent and purposes. You are being willfully ignorant of history just to try and make a point. Its how American politics has always been, its no more or less healthy than it was back when Teddy and Woodrow were doing the same thing. Acknowledge that and stop trying to play like a 7yo girl.

Yes, yes I know the other lot say silly things aswell and their bloke is equally as worthless as your bloke.

When Chrysler do exactly this in 2 yrs time at a quiet moment where they can dump the story, are you going to apologise?

(Cynical? Moi???? For the record this story to me is more my lack of faith in Chrysler than Mitt. I believe my lack of faith in him has already been expressed enough on here!)

I thought Chrysler where back on their feet again after a taxpayer funded takeover and restructuring.

Odds haven't moved much since the thread started, most indicate a 60-70% chance of an Obama win still (unadjusted for underdog bias of course). I'd expect Romney to make his next move soon, when he softened on social policy in debates he made a small dent and trailing with about a week left what does he have to lose by doing the same to a larger extent?

Romney has done about as well as I'd have expected so far. It's easy to say in hindsight his choice of running mate or words where poor but that is the case in any political campaign, no one is flawless all the time and I think this will still be an election won or lost on ideology rather than personal presentation.

Why would they? Their business is thriving (thanks to Obama and Marchionne) and their USP to many of their customers is their American heritage. Chinese plants are something that everyone is doing to deal with demand from that country, same with India and moreso in the future. Chrysler are hiring new workers in the USA to deal with domestic demand.

As a demonstration of the depths that Romney will sink to in his desperation, here's odious creep and Romney surrogate John Sunnunu claiming that Colin Powell only endorsed Obama because he's black. (Since walked back).

http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/26/opinion/martin-sunun...

And here's Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, a former Powell chief of staff blasting, the GOP (his own party) as a bunch of racists.

You know, I was gonna make a joke about that the other day when Powell made his comments, but thought it in bad taste. I should have guessed that someone in the Rmoney camp would actually say it rolleyes

I love this thread, two entrenched camps more interested in telling you why the other side are a bunch of aholes, not why they're any better. If I was a US citizen I'd be thoroughly embarrassed at this circus.

Amazing isn't it. It actually makes our politics look vaguely like an grown up endeavour.

yes I would hate to live in Ohio right now. They have been bombarded with 50,000 plus tv ads in the past few weeks. Even in my stste where Romney will win easily we have seemingly non stop ads for the senate and gubernatorial races. Nearly all ads from all sides are negative.

The real problem with Romney is the baggage that comes with him. Bill Maher sums it up perfectly (after New Rules).........

Bit the fact checker as posted earlier points out that there are more vessels now, than at the low point during Bush's administration, so simply sounds like scary talk to me.
Indeed. The US Navy has plenty of ships, and doesn't see any need for more. But Romney would give them more regardless.
Given that he's promising all and sundry tax cuts, how is he going to pay for them?
Anybody?

In the case of the US Navy, ask Romney, perhaps he would spend less in other areas which is why the question is best directed at him, but in general here we are back at the same old simplistic position that tax cuts automatically mean lower revenues over the life of a US (or UK) government.

Hang on a mo. Is that a very recent poll which has Romney ahead? Ahead of the racing certainty unbeatable gonna win it easy Obama?

"At this point, though, Gallup Daily tracking of likely voter preferences suggests Obama has lost more support than he could afford to, given his current 50% to 47% deficit to his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney."

How can it possibly be even close, I mean, Obama will win, obviously, even though he's 3 points behind and has been sliding for the last three weeks.

Obama doesn't need to win the popular vote (although I think he will). Reality is that he's winning in 8 of 12 swing states and level in a ninth. He'll win the election with 5 or 6. I think he'll end up with a comfortable margin of victory in the electoral college. The headline popular vote figures are fairly meaningless without context.

It looks a closer contest than I had thought it would be.
