We expect better that this from our elected politicians.
I can just about understand an exchange of views. Insults and swearing from a member of the Cabinet is a very poor show.

Bullying? rofl

Derek, you're not one of these Jobsworths are you? smile
We have a man of some authority. He said, so we are told, do you know who I am? Implicit in that question in these circumstances is a threat. It is a classic example of bullying. "You do it my way because I'm important and can cause yo problems".

It takes some bottle to stand up to those who have influence, especially nowadays. Look at the reaction on here. We have some who know nothing more than what they've read accusing said PC of being a jobsworth. Yet he has done everything according to his instructions. He hasn't stopped this bloke entering Downing St, merely refusing to open the gates against instructions. He's done everything right.

I have to admit to being capable to being a jobsworth when circumstances required, as they sometimes did. It is an essential of police work. It is a magic tactic when used against journalists who are being a real pain. And I did report a cabbie for leaving his cab when it was second in a cab rank, but those circs were exceptional and never repeated.

Wrong! You'd think someone who 'hands me my arse on a plate' would at least check facts. I think you'll find the current gates were ready present when the mortar attack took place. But why put security gates there anyway. We wouldn't want to make someone dismount their bicycle and WALK through the side gate. I mean, it would have added a whole minute to his journey.

Every post you makes typifies your attitude. Society has rules that apply to everyone. In typical Animal Farm fashion, you seem to think some are more equal than others. You mock and deride people who occasionally have to say 'no'. Guess what, that's life. If you can't see anything wrong with a senior Government Official shouting abusive language in plain sight and hearing of the general public and expect general decency not to apply because he's 'important', you've made my case without any effort from me.

You can't seem to muster anything viable in the way of debate, so you are scrabbling around trying to attach anything you can to me, this is the domain of the 'abject failure' in any debate, which is a flowery way to tell you that you really should stop posting anything addressed to me unless it has some real contribution to the debate... because I'll just keep handing your arse back to you with a newly torn hole.

OK?
I shall indeed stop replying to you. You're just not worth the time. But I will always have the satisfaction that people with your attitude always fall flat on their face eventually.

. . . the bloke lives in that street, at No12 in fact. So if he wants the gate opened into the road where he lives then he has every right to!

The problem with the moron of a cop at that time was he couldn't see this because he was a jobsworth who was too dumb to even work out why he was there in the first instance, so in the Chief whips place I'd have called him some choice names too and I wouldn't apologise later either.
The police officer, whose job it was to ensure that the government-supported instructions were adhered to, did not stop this bloke going to his place of work. To suggest that is plain silly. All he did was point out that he should use the dedicated entrance.

By what you said – I'd have called him some choice names too and I wouldn't apologise later either - you define yourself. My guess is that you would not and that this tirade, from the safety of you warm, comfortable home, is nothing more than willie waving.

Now the Police Federation are calling for this Mitchell chaps resignation no less!!!

They are at risk of completely negating the goodwill and sympathy gained in the last few days by their carefully orchestrated media manipulation.
The function of the Federation, strictly controlled by the government, is to take the part of its members. It is taking the part of its members. If they are subject to bullying, then they should do something.

As for goodwill and sympathy: it was two young women who died. It wasn’t a PR stunt.

Not that I noticed much goodwill from you on these forums.

“Carefully orchestrated media manipulation”. D’you know, I think I’ve met you. A number of times, in a number of situations, in a number of locations. I bet Dibble has, as well as EB and other police officers, ex and serving.
'Government supported Instructions'... and he is what?.. the chief-whip of our present government... he more than any other person controls the actions of the troops... just open the fking gate!

Bullying??? Being spoken to sharply is bullying... well... diddums.

It certainly wasn't a PR stunt, but recently I recall you being less than gracious about the role of some CCs and ACCs and DCCs and even being at a bit of a loss as to what function they perform, well this week we saw their real job, it's milking a situation, the rank and file rightly feel a real loss, they use the situation, they're good actors (they practice a lot) and only if you look hard can you see the cynicism behind it all.

It is though a far worse case of cynical manipulation in this instance as it comes from those that are supposed to represent the rank and file.

Stop the slurs, they won't work either, it's cheap and such should be beneath you.

It's certainly beneath contempt.

Really?

The gates were proposed in '89 but Tony Banks stalled it, but after the attack in feb '91 the gates were sanctioned to proceed regardless of HoP debate.

before that they were IIRC lift off types.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_Street_mortar...

Arse duly handed back to you, new hole torn... happy?

Next...

You seem to be the very worst element of modern policing (can you see what I've done there?) the application of homogeneity to all who come into contact with the police... unless you are a policeman yourself, in that case we'll close ranks and keep schtum.

Next...

The unerring belief in karma... poverty, both intellectual and financial, needs some sort of salve to make life bearable, you've lost the debate and now hope for karma to bring down the nasty man that brought your impoverished mind into stark relief.

Just keep hoping.

Of course rather than that you could try to muster up a solid argument, but I think you've given up on that idea.

Pray for karma, it's your last and best hope.

I think inverse snobbery would mean that one believes that some people are inherently superior to him or her for any one of a variety of reasons.

A strength of our constitution, although one being eaten away chunk by chunk, is the fact that the police are not the 'toops' of the government. And we should all be thankful of that.

just open the fking gate!: as I said, such responses, on a forum, define you.

As I said, the Federation have a duty to support its members. When a member of parliament acts so unreasonably they can't really keep stum.

it's milking a situation, the rank and file rightly feel a real loss, they use the situation, they're good actors (they practice a lot) and only if you look hard can you see the cynicism behind it all.

Why suddenly switch the subject to the prime minister's and the Home Secreatry's responses to the deaths of two police officers?

And as for slurs, may I quote from this thread:

the self-agrandised was a t**tin a uniform.

jobsworths.

the moron of a cop

a jobsworth who was too dumb

You are losing grip of reality old chap.

You have a strange value-set if so.

Debatable. Pretty sure it doesn't have any 'toops' though.
