you can bet your first born that the events will be recorded meticulously and ASAP. It's self preservation.
According to recent information it would appear that Mitchell has been stitched up by a pack of lies by colluding naughty people. The meticulous records to which you refer would appear to be fabrications. As for self-preservation, I suggest that any smug attitudes be readjusted & cake forks readied for a large slice of humble pie.

I have just watched the channel 4 news from this evening that covered the story and my conclusion is that Downing street security is shockingly poor.
That struck me as well, CCTV is appalling low quality and does not appear to cover many angles. Would have thought that hey would have had state of the art HD CCTV covering just about every angle with audio coverage at the gate as well.Very very poor

Very very poor
maybe they thought they could rely upon the police to keep them secure...Very very poor
The government have been trying to put cameras just about everywhere and anywhere over the last couple of decades and they never thought of one of the most important places this nation has. seems rather daft to me, unless of course the place is being watched by a dozen satellites that record sound and vision with remarkable clarity like they have in the movies.

it is but not sure the chinese will let us have the footage!I've heard some very disturbing things about the Met. Mostly, it's from officers on other forces - I took it with a pinch of salt, because there always will be rivalry - but does seem to highlight the ongoing struggle they have with understanding what [i[exactly[/i] the fundamental role of the police ought to be.

This year has really shaken my faith in the Police. Corruption uncovered by the Leveson Enquiry, this latest Mitchell revelation and, most shocking of all, Hillsborough make me think there is something very wrong with the institution.
My faith was shattered once I learned just how few actual officers on the beat/in cars, the spend on policing actualyl delivers to a typical 'front line' town. I'm sure the criminal classes know only too well (and are pleased) but the vast majority of the public have absolutely no idea how thinly the blue line is spread throughout the land.Digga said:

I am not sure it matters how thick or thin the blue line is once the expectation that the Police will tell the truth and act with integrity has gone.AnotherClarkey said:

I'm sure the criminal classes know only too well (and are pleased) but the vast majority of the public have absolutely no idea how thinly the blue line is spread throughout the land.I struggled when I learnt that out of 7,000 officers in one counties Police force, a mere 6 were available and on duty one Saturday evening in the largest town in that county. In this day and age, its hard to understand why there are over 50 different Police forces in the country. Something is going badly wrong and I actually think its time for a Royal Commission into Policing, justice, and the prison service.
In the Gategate case, I'm sure the Police Federation is going to spend the holidays looking over its shoulder. Using dodgy testimony (I wonder who put him up to it?) to launch a clearly politically motivated attempt to influence the removal of a senior government politician was always high risk.
