That's peanuts to Zod!

I helped to re-nationalise the East Coach Franchise, but didn't do the West Coast one. Phew!
I worked as an associate (as did half the firm at the time) on the Railtrack privatisation (dealing with the BR debt), but it wasn't my fault! Haven't touched UK railways since.

I have done a fair bit of railway nonsense, including a crazy case about the Channel Tunnel refurb at St Pancras. After the East Coast fracas, my suggestion that the Gov rebrand the service as "British Rail" went down like a hoot.

Might I suggest a "lead hoot", m'learned friend?

I tell you what though, even knowing nothing of the law - as I do (don't?) - I cannot believe how badly this rail franchise contract has been ballsed up. Do these ministers just have complete morons for advisers or is it all about brown envelopes and favours?

I once rode on a West Coast Main Line train, but that's the limit of my involvement.

I spent a year living on the West Coast Pendolinos, and Virgin ran the service very well. I vote for Richard.

Well I blame you then. It's clearly all your fault

And may I just add that your attitude is typical of the "I demand my rights but accept no responsibility" type response that pervades our societal mores these days.

Frankly Symbolica me old china, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

I regret nothing!

Well, apart from visiting the North.

Anyway enough about trains and back on topic;

BBC News website said:
The radical cleric's lawyers said eight years in prison had resulted in chronic sleep deprivation and depression, meaning he was unfit to plead at a trial and follow the proceedings.
Well if his lawyers and the accused hadn't cooked up so many appeals and dragged their legal feet for so long he wouldn't have been in a UK prison for eight years and thus would have been fit to stand trial.

Not surprised he's depressed - he's going into a US prison for the rest of his natural.

You cannot have your cake and eat it.

PS: I was mistaken earlier. There is no further avenue of appeal, which is good. Gareth Pierce may try one last foolery of some kind, but this looks like finito benito.

PPS: on law and lawyers, Alan Jones QC acts for the Hillsborough families. The cab rank rule makes you a hero one day, a villain the next.

Gareth Pierce is not subject to the cab rank rule. I have crossed swords with her, and she is an ideologically driven agitprop lawyer.

All of which reminds me of Johnny Cash's "Man named Sue". It's all in the name.
