I'm surprised the jury managed to stretch out their deliberations for 4 hours. I would have thought 10 minutes was all that was required for the foreman to ask "Right, anyone think this guy is innocent?" and everyone else to reply "no chance"
That isn't the role of a foreman though.

Now the guy has been proven guilty. Let the knee jerk reactions go. We all suspected it might end this way, but the amount of tabloid-esque replies to this topic have been OTT.

The abduction, murder and dismembering of a child with a sexual element is a pretty emotive subject. Even the 'defence' was a joke, he never denied he killed her, just tried to justify it in the fantasy world he lives in.

Whatever sentence he gets won't be enough, I guess the best the parents can hope for is a deathbed confession of what he did.

The only surprise is that it took the jury 4 hours. Admittedly I was only following it in the Press, but his explanations rank alongside "the dog ate my homework" in terms of credibility.
Exactly, his excuse of running over her and then dumping the body but forgetting where was a real crock, I am amazed his barrister could present such rubbish.

That shows an alarming mis-understanding of how the defence process works.

I understand perfectly well how the system works but the incredible nature of the defence was plain for all to see.

So you understand the barrister was just representing the clients position - he/she doesn't judge the merits of it.

So focus your very well placed ire on the defendant for pleading "not guilty", not on their legal representative who had few options once he had pleaded not-guilty....

I haven't expressed any ire at the barrister at all, just astonishment at the ludicrous attempt at an explanation for the death.

Sounded like ire to me:

rather than
"Amazed the defendant put forward such a ludicrous defence for his poor barrister to have to represent"

Quite different positions.

So... sweepstake on the minimum?

I'm going with 35.

Ire at the barrister would look more like "how can that fking bd sleep at night if his work got that murdering found not guilty".

Taking the last sicko into consideration (he got 38 years after admitting guilt) I'm going for 45 minimum (can they even do that?)

OK, point taken. Either way I feel sorry for the barrister...

Don't I suspect they are glad that they lost this case.

The judge has imposed a whole life tariff.

Good. I won't be terribly upset if that whole life doesn't last for long.

On the contrary I hope that he lives to an old age. I hope that his every single day from now on is a slow one filled with fear and that every night is filled with regret and loneliness. I hope the miserable piece of st ends up wishing he were dead, and I hope it's a long, long time before that wish is granted.
