I don't think they know, basically. We don't even know for sure that the chap held has anything to do with it. He hasn't been charged yet.
Can't charge anyone until they know what's happened.

Was hoping for a positive update on Sky News this morning - but other than reporting that lots of people have turned up to help comb the hills, there doesn't appear to be any significant developments overnight - well, not that are being reported anyway.

Personally, I was quite moved seeing the huge turnout of well-meaning public. Mach is a very small place and to get so many keen volunteers is IMHO an impressive show of what politicians would no doubt want to call 'big society'.

I'm guessing the air sea rescue heat-seeking helicopter wasn't able to bring any further progress?

Maybe I have missed something here, but why have they been searching outside since she was taken? Surely at a little over 36 hours since she went missing she is most likely to be inside somewhere?

Seems strange that they have a suspect but are still looking for the poor little girl. Can't they beat it out of them, oh! of course not. Our great caring sharing society that lets monsters like this walk amongst us.

Of course I realise that he may just be helping police with their inquiries but he has already been named and shamed by the press.

AFAIK the general public just turned out because they wanted to do 'something' and I guess at least they helped eliminate some possibilities.

IMHO you may be right, although the Dyfi esturay has pretty strong currents and would be a convenient place to temporarily disappear a small package - and is/was being searched apparently.

They've been questioning this guy and "expect intelligence".

Is that the Old Bill announcing to the entire world that this Bridger chap definitely has something to do with it??

The mass on site press response is interesting. I hope it was a force for good.

Don't think the market will be on today ,then I could be wrong.

I grew up around here and that river has a nasty way of taking out to sea anything in it's path ,particialy since we've had a lot of rain of late.
Though I haven't seen much action this side of the river.

I don't think so.

The whole demeanour of the Police points to the fact that she was apparently alive when she can be last accounted for. They've had Bridger for a while now, and since his arrest and questioning have said a few times they hope to find her alive. So, as far as they know (and yes, he could be lying) he hasn't killed her.

After 36 hours out in the elements, the outlook is pretty bleak though.

ETA The Police asking the public to stop looking isn't a great sign though.

I wonder how much of the search is to keep the public busy, directing a few hundred pitchfork carrying members of the community to the side of a hill certainly keeps them out of the way.

The last thing you'd want is them trampling through a crime scene.

Sky news is reporting the Police dont want people out looking for her, its a horrible thought but I think they caught up to the guy they arrested on his way back from hiding the body and the Police dont want a member of the public/friend of the family/family member making the discovery.

Could be a number of reasons. One of them is the public are not generally trained in this and may get in the way and may need rescuing.

Something in their attitude towards the public searching has changed though - they were all for it yesterday.

It would suggest they are not clueless about the girl's whereabouts.

Agreed. But looking at what the people were dressed like and in some cases carrying, I am hoping that its for that rather than the worse case. If that makes sense.
