Ahh, showing up now. I am not a TV watcher, most of my news comes via here or papers that tend to lag behind by some hours/days.

Just use the jokes thread - most major news items are covered there within minutes of them happening.

The police were saying yesterday they were awaiting forensic evidence. Looks like they've got it.

Not knowing what's going on, "perverting the course of justice" must mean he's staying shtum.

  • If* he is guilty, what a cold heartless bd doing a 'Brady'.

I only hope the Police find the poor child's body to give the parents some form of closure.

I can't even begin to comprehend what kind of evil must lurk in the mind of someone capable of harming a child let alone murdering one.

This, plus the body would hopefully yield evidence of the killer and about how she died.

Not knowing the law (if she has been murdered) - if he has done it and the police have reasonable forensic evidence, but no body, will his sentence be as severe as with the body?

It is mandatory life sentence regardless, don't need a body.

Finding an impartial jury will be an interesting challenge,,,,,,,,

I do hope they can recover her body to give her parents closure. I really can't believe that he sat thering "no comment" for 4 days. Although, the seemingly rather erratic nature of the searches seems to suggest that they weren't able to elicit a definitive location from him. If he did sit there keeping schtum, what a cold bd.

Guilt or innocence is judged on the evidence, sentencing once guilt is decided is not.

The PCoJ charge suggested to me that he gave them a whole load of false info or something like that, you couldn't be charged with it just for keeping your mouth shut.

Why? We're not all like those FB idiots who can't see the difference between Charged and Proven Guilty.

PCoJ? Trying to think how that would apply in this case. Was he sending the coppers on a wild goose chase?

My guess is they had some kind of evidence on Monday or Tuesday that he had abducted her which gave them enough to feel confident of releasing his name. The Crown Prosecutor has said he's been in consultation with police since Tuesday so he must have been part of that decision. They now probably have forensic evidence of some kind to charge with murder ?

I can't think how they can charge him for murder otherwise.

Whatever it is let's hope if it is him they've got enough to string him up. Hopefully someone will get to him inside.....just enough to make him suffer.

You mean if he is found guilty of course?

Sufficient evidence.

Let's just hope now he has enought time to reflect and let them know where the body of the poor girl is.

Assuming the police have the right man my theory is that there was some kind of accident, he panicked and hid the body. He was arrested as there were witnesses to him "picking her up" but he thought he could bluff his way out of it, in the process making the situation way way worse for himself.
Now he is in a very deep hole, he has wasted Police time and the FB using public want-a-hangin, time will tell, the truth may never come out.

I'm not sure how, relatively, he's made the situation worse (for himself) - it's not like it would have been any better if he's come clean at the outset.
