I think the Nobel Peace prize lost it's credibility when they gave one to Obama before he's had chance to do anything in office, even he was embarrassed by it.
I think we all hoped that was a forgiveable indiscretion, but this takes it to a new level.

RIP Nobel Peace Prize. frown
This parrot is dead;)

Has it been mentioned yet that Thorbjørn Jagland is Secretary-General of the Council of Europe?

He has awarded the prize to himself.
Council of Europe is not the EU.
Nothing to do with it.

An unaccountable, undemocratic, useless Stalinist body gets awarded this !!! What a joke !!!
I agree the EU needs reform to be more directly accountable to individuals not just states, but Stalinist? - Do you know what Stalin did? - The EU is nothing like Stalin or Stalinism.

Yes, what a joke. They must be fearing that it may collapse soon so, are using every bit of propaganda to try and turn it around. Is there any country where the people are majorly in favour of the EU?
Eurosceptisism is undoubtedly rising but The UK is still one of the most Eurosceptic countries in the EU. People in many other EU countries are much more positive about the EU - though I doubt many in the PistonHeads bubble will recognise this.

That said, though European integration (amongst other things) has reduced the likelihood of war in Western Europe, the EU has a poor track record diplomatically on the continent often appearing asleep at the wheel and unable to agree on or project coherent policies in its 'neighbourhood'. The USA has been far more effective in this arena - an example of this is in the 5+2 negotiations over PMR/Transnistria. For this and other reasons, I don't feel the award is appropriate.

After the joke of Al Gore and the IPCC they had to think of something really off the wall for this round.

The Council of Europe is entirely separate to the EU; it has 47 members including Albania and Russia.

The Follow up Gag was Better though, Obamas, has anyone yet figured out WTF his was for??
Nope.

Fair point, though he's just another silver-tongued snake oil salesman, Gore and the IPCC are in a different league.

Now this, The nobel prize committee has created the longest running sitcom in history I reckon.
I think they're trolling us. Must be.

I hope so - but if this economic crises drags on for a long time then things will change and could be fast. I know some of the large companies are now starting to plan on it lasting for a decade.

Well if you believe Paul Krugman it should go to Obama and the EU jointly I reckon.!
Don't forget Gordon, and many others. Wouldn't there be a fantastic irony in awarding 200 Nobel Prizes in Economics to the masterminds of QE.

Even with the Nobel peace prize....the E.U. is finished, nothing is going to save it in the long run and the sooner we get out the better.

Look, I think this award is shameful and moronic, but I can't let this post past: the Council of Europe has nothing to do with the European Union. Norway is not even a member of the EU.
