Also the Lebanese Hezbollah are alleged to have claimed responsibility for flying a drone (unarmed and supplied by Iran) over key strategic sites in Israel.
I suspect this is more than a remote control toy plane! This whole drone thing is a can of worms..............

Given a drone is (a) not very big, (b) doesn't need a fancy launch site, and (c) can operate on a "launch and forget" basis it surely won't be very long before they are weapon of choice for terrorists. After all, why be a suicide bomber?

Do some youtube searches, paired swarms of drones that could carry a kilo or more are readily available, easily used, and pretty cheap. As a kid I used to read a comic that had a kid with his own remote controlled military, I used to pretend I was him, sending waves of tanks towards the playground fort. Little did I know real life would make it possible in such a short time. The technology behind them could very simply be used to take out somewhere like Camp Bastion, let alone within a populated city... That was kinda my point - if they are set up to register and target high speed objects, would they pick up on a slow moving drone (potentially moving only a few mph) floating that low (not sure how low sea skimmers are but they've got to be higher than swell crests)? I'm assuming not, otherwise there would be a new Guinness record for World's most excessive scarecrow! Clearly reprogramming would be possible, but by then significant damage could have been done.
