Anyone genuinely depressed does not produce a styled 8-minute short for YouTube.
I think you're making the common mistake of assuming that everyone's depression is the same and everyone reacts in the same way.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people sneer and dismiss other people's depression because they don't consider them to be behaving in a way which conforms with their idea or experience of depression.

The message is very simple people,

a) Don't behave like a tw@t, and

b) If you know someone who behaves like a tw@t, have the guts to stand up and tell them so.

It's the silence of people who should have spoken up which allows tw@ts to get away with it.
+ 1 , a tragic example here.

I always see stories of how groups hack companies and deface their websites etc.

Would really like to see some one/group with such skills exposing some of these bds online with such horrible comments.

Then would like to see the locals turn on them, bully them etc. But I know that ain't gonna happen.

Unfortunately I doubt this would be the last time someone suffers such torment.

Anonymous have had an ongoing campaign against child pornography for some time now and have outed thousands of,paedophiles and subsequent arrests.

You'd think her parents would have banned her from facebook/the internet after she moved schools. Someone's a lot harder to track down on the internet when they don't have a facebook account.

Poor parenting, imo. They should have also taught their kid about privacy on the internet and then she might not have flashed some pedo in a chatmroom.

You might not like FB, but a huge number of people use it and for teenagers especially its an integral part of their lives. Ascribing her suicide to a failure to stop using FB is simplistic and ridiculous. The people to blame are the bullies, not the victim for using social media.

Again, a pointless assumption. Having an FB account doesn't make you easier to track down on the internet unless you leave everything open. These rants against FB are counter-productive and misleading. I'd also hesitate to blame the parents of a suicide victim for not banning her from using social media.

I agree re. privacy on the internet however. The problem is that so many people have so little understanding of it, even adults. My neighbours are teachers and they told me that they hold regular lectures for the students on social media and the impact of misusing it or posting material which can cause them problems. They also say they're constantly surprised at the lack of understanding which both students and parents display on it. They also try and address the attitudes behind people using it for bullying.

The way I see it

attractive young girl decides to flash her boobies on webcam

then regrets it / gets flak for doing it

then nabs another lasses boyfriend

I agree to a certain extent, but she was bullied and stalked for two years by the person she did the show for with the photo exposed to her friends and school (including new schools where she tried to start afresh), so it is understandable why there was a pyschological impact.

And when you're younger, your view of the world tends to be very, very different.

I was absolutely floored when I found out that a school friend had killed himself years back; found out he'd died when i saw his grave near where my father is buried. Initially wondered why he'd died so young - my mum got chatting to his father while they were both paying their respects, my old school friend had strung himself up in his wardrobe as he was having difficulties coping with life. He was ridiculously intelligent, but had decided that he somehow didn't "fit" in the world. And yes, he had been bullied at school .....

But the bullies - and the on-line culture of the moment as a whole - is showing kids having some real problems coping with life on-line. People are continually saying things on-line that they would never say in person. Some may take it a little further and do it in person (hopefully these are relatively rare). People seem to think that they can pretty much get away with on-line murder and think "ah, but they're only words, words never hurt anyone".

That's why there should be limits to what people do and if they can't set them themselves then, in extreme times, the law needs to intervene. Although no doubt someone will come along and state that it's an infringement on human rights and free speech.

I would personally sacrifice that type of thinking and a little bit of free speech, if that's what they call it, for a bit of decency and I'm no shrinking violet
I'm sorry the young girl died but, I don't think that is a valid reason to curtail my freedom of speech. Just because some people can't raise their children properly, I don't think it is justifiable to punish everyone.

It's already been curtailed. Crying crocodile tears about it now won't help, especially doing so in a thread like this where you'll just end up looking like a tosser.

Situations like this are precisely why the law exists in the form that it does. Arguing against that just seems churlish.

Such a shame wasted potential, had her whole life to live for and then in 5 years time look back at the bullying for what it was.

Suicide is something that, until you are in the situation, you will never understand. I hope that none of us ever find ourselves in a situation where we feel the only way out is the end of everything.

The hackers Anonymous have allegedly posted info (including home address yikes) of the guy who did all this to her originally; posting the pictures etc.

Hope he gets what's coming to him to be honest.
