In the light of the Savile story I was rather surprised at the timing of the NAHT who are calling for children to be taught about pornography from the age of 10 - spokeshead on radio just now.

Wonder who'll get recruited to teach the lessons - most primaries having few or no male staff for example, so a Mumsnet flavour?

And armpit hair. And mooncups.

it could put a generation of 10 year olds off porn. Doesn't seem sporting to me.

Just leave some mags around the school fields, they will work out what it is all about.

Terrifying concept, you would get the all men are depraved and bad, all they do is degrade women and then that all women are victims, and that women involved in the sex industry are being forced to be there and are not doing it by choice (Ok, I do know some are forced, but you know what I mean).

Oh and don't forget, porn is only for men rolleyes

It would be interesting to see many women teachers field questions from sharp (or worse) 10 year olds about their use of porn, or 'devices'! God help them in a secondary school.

Or leave an unrestricted computer in the classroom and leave for a coffee break. My 3 year old nephew uses his dads Iphone better than his dad its scary how techno savvy these kids are. Won't take them long to open a search engine and type in boobies.

I didn't hear the interview, but I agree with the sentiment.

The contents of most jazz mags found under a bush are a bit different than what one could find with just a few letters typed into google, safesearch off, no parental controls.

My 10yo lad did just the same. We found out about it pretty quick and he won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Most young kids are streets ahead of their parents in technology, so I also agree strongly with the need to opt in to adult content, just as you have to do with mobiles.

Hadn't seen any in woods for years until last week. Went for a walk in the woods in Belgium. On the side of the path was a rather moist and bedraggled SheMale DVD. Didn't dare take it back to the house because I didn't want to explain to the rental agency in case it got stuck in the player.

Belgian 10 year olds obviously don't have as much web access as ours.

Is this the story? I don't really see the issue; sex is still an embarrassment with families in this country and it shouldn't be. If the kids can't talk to their parents about it then they need someone or something they can to ensure they're well informed about pregnanxy and STI's. The sex education I had at school was rubbish just 10 years ago (eek), this seems like a much better approach taking from the Dutch, who have had success with a lower birth rates and sexual health.

You cannot stop teenagers from having sex, but you'd rather they were doing it somewhere safe with a condom than in a bush and pulling out before the young chap has a crisis. hehe

He has no desire to after what he saw.

That's the problem with net porn, it's all or nothing.

Perhaps some good 'ole erotic/soft porn stuff could be hidden somewhere for him to find in a year or two?

without wishing to sound too prudish and old fashioned but IMO this sort of thing and attitude has a lot to answer for, the people advocating 10yr olds being that sexually aware are borderline child abusers and frankly these lefty aholes are borderline peodo's

it is saying to nutters that it is almost acceptable

So the argument against is one of

"The problem with this country is that our children are too well informed of the world around them"...

hmmm....

Surely knowledge is power, I doubt these lessons include sitting down and watching two girls one cup (don't do it) but education can't be a bad thing, can it?
