Seems the Beeb is writing him out of the show very soon and trying to get hs last scenes in the can before this all becomes general knowledge.....
What is it about the Beeb these days.......? Surely someone arrested for these offences should be put straight on uphill 'garden leave' or something until its all cleared up.....

Haven't watched Eastenders in about two years now and feel much better for it
Same here.It definitely feels like kicking a real addiction.Somewhatfoolish said:
Just to be clear, if this was a 16 year old having consenual sex with a 14 year old would it be charged like this?
The crime is the same for anyone under the age of 18 as it is for anyone over 18, though the sentencing guidelines are different. It's irrelevant though, this is an accusation of sexual assault.

Thanks, I just wanted to be clear. Had it been essentially a 16 year old sleeping with a 14 year old then while it would be illegal I wouldn't exactly be bothered, it's the kind of thing teenagers do.It's irrelevant though, this is an accusation of sexual assault.
But presumably from you repeating the sexual assault claim this is basically a rape, right?
Sorry for not being au fait with what the legal terms for sexual offences are and what they mean, but they are not exactly things I keep track of!

Well, quite apart from 'innocent until proven guilty', the Beeb does have a duty to ensure that the millions of people of who watch and enjoy this soap are given a show with storylines that run to some sort of logical conclusion, rather than just having a character disappear mid-episode.
I'm sure that ITV would do the same with Corrie - but don't let that shake you off the PH anti-BBC bandwagon.
I agree, it just wouldn't do for Eastenders to have implausible storylines where people just appear and disappear...I'm sure that ITV would do the same with Corrie - but don't let that shake you off the PH anti-BBC bandwagon.

Just to be clear, in the eyes of the law there is no such thing as consensual sex with a 14 year old. The consent you can get from a 14yo can lead you to three places, rape, sexual assault and aggrevated sexual assault.

A 16year old having sex with a 14 year old counts as sex with a minor does it not? Not sexual assault.
It's all here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/42/conten...

I thought it was only statutory rape if they were 13 or younger?

No such thing as 'statutory' rape in England - you only hear that on 'CSI'.A 16year old having sex with a 14 year old counts as sex with a minor does it not? Not sexual assault.
The Savile thread explains things, but from what I read:
Sex with someone under 16 by someone over 18 is illegal (but not rape, unless defined as such)
If they are under 13, it's rape.
If they are between 16 and 18, and the other person is in a position of trust/care, it's illegal.
Sex between, say two 15 year olds is technically illegal, but not in the public interest to prosecute, unless one party was coerced. Rape would be a separate issue in this case, subject to the same definitions as between two adults.
