I think I read somewhere that Saville was a personal guest of Thatcher at the tory christmas parties for some years...

He was a regular New Year's Eve party guest at Chequers.

If newsnight don't broadcast the name, this is going to go the way of the Ryan Giggs affair.

I wouldn't call Cyril Smith a senior politician but I did read something about his penchant for spanking boys yesterday.
Reminds me of a 1970's joke.

Q. How do you get 4 Liberals on a bar stool?
A. Turn it upside down.

I must admit, rather then move the spotlight off the bbc, I feel it puts more light onto them: why were they keeping this information all this time? Just how high up does the cover-up go??

There is always a way of turning everything round to suit.

The BBC were taken in by his charm, just like Thatcher and the Royals.

NewsNight... This will be interesting, McShame gets caught 'fiddling'...

Not the best time to get busted defrauding the tax payer when breaking news of a political figure gets outed for playing with kids.

So they don't have the evidence to name names but do have enough to state it was a senior Tory.

Yeah, can't see anyone thinking there's bias at the Beeb at all.

They are not going to name him are they

So all that liberal hand wringing and cries of "wont somebody think of the children" is all hipocritical hogwash isnt it.

Well done BBC, thats what I call the fourth estate, speaking truth unto power and holding the powerful to account.

Hurrah for good old Auntie

Very odd that all of the on-location and interview footage seems to have been recorded with the full expectation of not being able to name this High Profile Figure - unless, possibly, they recorded numerous versions and didn't decide which ones to air until half way through the preceding episode of QI.

As it stands, it appears that the BBC rolled a hand-grenade into the Tory Elder Grandee Tent, but lacked the bottle to actually pull the pin out beforehand.

Politicians have criticised the BBC for not naming Savile.

The BBC want to name a senior tory and they are stopped doing so, presumably by an injuntion.

I think the BBC have put their case clearly.

Just watch Esther Rantzen squirm out of this. "I never knew anything" etc...
