Super, that's just another reason to look more closely, not an excuse as to why drivers can't see... I'd rather people spend a few more seconds each day looking for me than potentially taking 60 years off my life.

Can't be done if you are asked to look left and right slow you get the saccadic movements, however if you follow an object eg a pen then the movements are smooth.

Good fun when you've had a few beers getting people to try.

If he was out in the dark it's not surprising really. The contrast between super bright headlights and dark road means everything else is largely invisible anyway.

I just hope he doesn't become the pin up boy for every anti-motoring rule the car hating green/CND/friends of the earth lobby want to peddle in the name of national importance.

THIS is exactly why DRL's have become mandatory on all new cars, your brain can see bright light in your peripheral vision even if your not looking

Because plenty of them, like the who illegally entered a mini roundabout that my mate was cycling across last night, are on their frigging 'phones.

That and TBH, although I am all for cheap transport - cycling democtratises mobility and freedom - and the health benefits of being active, the unspoken truth is that the majority of the UK's roads are frankly inadequate for the motorised traffic, let alone adding cyclists 9and horse ridesr for that matter) into the mix. The carriageway widths in most areas originated years back and might have been fine when cars were rare and, even then, were the width of an MG TF or Austin A35 and trucks had about 180hp max, but these days they don't cope.

It's all part and parcel of an abject failure of all governments since the 1970's to move our road infrastructure forward. And before anyone mentions rail, I leave you weith the statistic that 90% of rail projects are over-optimistic in their forecasting of passenger numbers.

Glad he's ok, saw the news this morning and an eye-witness said 8 police cars attended .

My g/f drove past the scene not knowing what was going on and saw a police car heading that way. There was also an accident on the southbound exit slip of the M6 there that the police were attending to.

All she saw was a woman being restrained which as I've read might have been Wiggo's wife trying to batter whoever hit him!

It is a messy set of junctions though but there is a speed camera 200 yards up the road so it must be safe?!?

That's true but having said that, I passed 3 cyclists without lights front or back, no refective clothes and on the road not pavement last night, what do these tts expect if they get hit by a car, I sure BW was well lit up though.

IMO a lot of drivers are programmed to look out for other motor vehicles and anything of a lesser width simply doesn't register. That said, cyclists who don't use lights don't exactly endear themselves.
