As we expected Rotherham tip of the iceberg. 256 cases in just one London Borough, Havering.

Will Rotherham turn out to be not the exception but the norm?

My reading suggests a report that claims 256 children are 'at risk', of a number of things, including domestic and online abuse, rather than actual cases, per se.

They interviewd some rotherham locals for a race relations article in radio 4. The Asian chaps blamed the girls and said it was racism picking on Pakistanis.

I couldn't believe they even aired that interview, but it does evidence the greater issue; an abject desire to defend and justify behaviour that is morally repugnant. To say Social Services are to blame for allowing the girls to be out and therefore in a position to be abused is a totally arrogant and only serves to highlight that there is no shame in many parts of that particular community.

The scary thing is that after Rotherham, Bradford and Sheffield, they seem to be talking about areas further afield. Yorkshire isn't done with yet; not by a long shot.

Wait till some of the sh*t hits the fan about Birmingham
Then waiting in the wings is that little matter of Blackpool and the links to Burnley.

Calender news now. Manchester.

Reports saying over ten years ago Asian rape gangs were out of control and police knew.

Manchester police ignored and covered up. Senior officers distanced from the recent investigation. Report delayed as it has been re written 9 times to protect senior police officers.alledges serving policeman.

That tallies with the voiced by an actor former GMP officer on Radio 4's WATO a few weeks ago saying that it was going on there, but nobody wants to be first.

Delaying helps give distance to police officers and help push it back to after the election.

That 'ebola" brushed under the carpet because it will affect the way some minorities vote.

Chief constable of Norfolk Police telling us Rotherham is the tip of the iceberg...

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/oct/15/rot...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29639374

Neither mentioned on the BBC breakfast news @ 7.30 am this morning

No comments allowed on the guardian piece. Surprisingly, the BBC piece actually contains the word "Pakistani".

This case is going to court today in Wakefield apparently, stated on the BBC local news this morning- no link as yet on the BBC website.

Simon Bailey the ACPO lead for child sexual abuse and Chief Constable for Norfolk says that Teachers and Doctors should play more of a role in uncovering that abuse and crimes?

scratchchin

Given the way that the police have covered it up or stood by in Rotherham and Manchester with their hands tucked inside their stab vests doing nothing about this for several years he's got a brass neck hasn't he.

Crimes are down as they're allowed not to count Credit Card fraud:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2735233/Wh...

As Credit Card fraud is less obvious than bicycle theft I guess there's no call to chase those committing that offence to a watery end in an historic harbour? I guess not counting Credit Card fraud could skew historic crime figures?

The widespread sexual exploitation of minors isn't counted on the crime stats just as Credit Card fraud isn't. They're both crimes carefully hidden from us by the authorities.

No doubt less of this goes on now, but naive to believe it has stopped altogether.Would be handy if the punishment for this was increased.

Joyce Thacker gone. I think she needs to be stripped of her CBE. And Mereddyd Hughes needs his Queen's Police Medal repossessed too.
+1

Want to hear the terms of the mutual agreement though. I trust that shower of st as far as I could have thrown Cyril Smith.
Thacker got 40k payout. Which as the council says is probably less than her pay in lieu of notice.

She should have got nothing.

Pension? No doubt immediately payable.

Like everyone here I'm truly appalled by the amount of people who seem to be involved in this kind of thing and the fact that the police in particular seemingly brushed it under the carpet when they knew about it. It's almost as if they focus more of their attention on motorists doing sixty in a fifty zone than serious crimes of this nature. My limited knowledge of the police (friend's husband and my dad's mate) leads me to believe though that a very high proportion of the police are a bunch of slackers. My friend's husband used to go and park up somewhere quiet for a sleep for a large chunk of his shift regularly...

As for the sexual abuse what is becoming clear is that it's been going on since the beginning of time - it's just that more recently there has been a crackdown on it focusing on 1970's DJ's but even as recently as the late 1990's it was almost socially acceptable in some circles. I once spent a few days in a hotel on business where a number of then leading pop bands were staying for a smash hits competition. The hotel was mobbed by hordes of chanting schoolgirls and teens and later in the bar I noticed that a number of leading bands of the era who were in the bar with me were in the company of some very attractive but I would say questionably legal lolita types - probably 15 or 16. It made me feel uncomfortable (the pop stars were established acts so by then probably 30 or so) so in fact I took myself off to bed. I wouldn't want my Daughter to behave in that way but it's clear that many kids have/do. I suppose though if you're a twenty something pop star and have your pick of a bunch of Britney Spears lookalikes who might be 15, 16, 17 then after a few drinks it would be very easy to find yourself tempted.

I feel that exploiting opportunity as the pop stars did above is wrong but arguably somewhat different to a deliberately predatory bunch targeting children which everyone of sane mind agrees is utterly sick.

The difficulty is that as a society we seem to be pushing sexual images at children left right and centre in pop videos, films and TV. I know my 9 year old Daughter is influenced by what she sees pop/TV tarts wearing. One of her favourite TV series is House of Anubis which is a childrens TV series and here's the cast:

Now you have to ask is it really necessary to have the school uniform in a children's TV show so provocatively worn? - it's more like watching a Britney Spear's video! Does this though then translate into younger girls wearing their school uniform in a more alluring/provocative way nowadays - probably. I look back at my school/college/university photos and (sadly) the girls looked nothing at all like the image above - more like a bunch of zit infested, un-made-up, unglamorous nuns. My wife was a teacher for a time in the UK secondary system and said it was unbelievable what was deemed acceptable in terms of uniform, false eyelashes, make-up, skirts rolled up practically to the knicker line, stockings, heels, mascara so thick you'd think they were hookers. Is it any wonder they're getting leered at?

Here's the cast of Grange Hill from 1978

Bit different dont-you think and this was considered a bit edgy in its day!! As a society we need to take a long hard look at what we're doing in the media and to sell products - especially to impressionable minds. We need to try and revert to a simpler and more innocent time when kids were kids and we need the police and social services to work together much more effectively to protect the young and vulnerable.

Yep. Another suppressed report from 2012 only now seeing the light of day..

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news...

75% of Birmingham's child grooming offenders 'asian' and 84% of victims white girls.
