Discussion
There is going to be a 10 minute rule motion at 12.30 today.
This is by Alec Shelbrooke to discuss having a benefits card that would not be allowed to buy cigarettes and alcohol.
What are you views on this?
I'm not sure this would work as you would then get a black market running, although in principle I do like the idea.

fking terrible idea for 2 reasons
1 Would you trust our glorious leaders not to roll this out to everyone that receives some money from the state such as pensioners and then roll it out to everyone so you can only buy government approved goods.
2 Just down the road from us is a little honesty box run by a farm where you take the veg they have grown and drop your cash into a little lock box. we buy all our veg from here due to the high quality and low price. How would we use this if we were on the dole?. We couldn't so we would be forced to buy st at tescos which is further away and more expensive.
I know i will get shouted down by those that want to see anyone unemployed shot on sight who will support this idea.

No point in this at all.
Well, there is. It will create a load of extra red tape and no doubt a shockingly sprawling and expensive IT system to run it. i.e. jobs for the boys.
And of course there would be no backhanders to a minister to get the welfare card contractWell, there is. It will create a load of extra red tape and no doubt a shockingly sprawling and expensive IT system to run it. i.e. jobs for the boys.

OK, I'll bite. On what, exactly, are you basing this viewpoint?
I know plenty of people, personally, that do not 'have' to work because everything they want and need is paid for them.Start removing little luxuries like this from their 'gratis catalogue' and perhaps when they can't have what they want, only what they need, the value of employment may start to rise.
Plus, it used to boil my piss seeing my 'disabled' alcoholic neighbour getting stfaced every single day. Why the fk should we pay for people like that? It's not a disability, it's a stty lifestyle choice.
While dishing these cards out to anyone in receipt of any benefits is undoubtedly unfair, I think introducing this to the long term unemployed is a great idea. Classed as fit for work, but unemployed for anything over 6 months, you lose your luxuries.

Why should people living off benefits be allowed luxuries?
Maybe if they had to work for their fix, more people would seek employment.

hat would be my guess. It's laughable, really, this apparent concept that everyone who is claiming any benefits is automatically living the life of Riley and doing nothing to find work.
I sees it. With me own eyes. I don't read the Mail.Anyone with any form of their own income, would have their own money to buy their luxuries with. Sop no, it's not 'anyone on any benefits' at all.

The first bit is a crazy conspiracy theory. The torys are in power, not those evil red-ties!1 Would you trust our glorious leaders not to roll this out to everyone that receives some money from the state such as pensioners and then roll it out to everyone so you can only buy government approved goods.

The third bit was apparently an accurate prediction, good old pistonheads.
