The mans a dangerous predator with a sexual preference is for kids, how can you “rehabilitate” that out of someone?

Women (and maybe men) with low self-esteem, lots of issues and craving attention. Scarily, they're will be plenty out there.

You cannot.

He wasn't born (nobody is) with a baby-rapist gene so I bet you probably could rehabiltate it out of him if you tried hard enough. It'd require some extreme deprogramming though and probably full on brainwashing.

The counsellor in me would be fascinated to hear how he devolved into what he ended up doing, what created the person he is now if I'm honest. It's the same with any criminal no matter how heinous, it's a series of events and the reactions to said events that create who you are, you aren't born evil or anything else (although you can have certain things lacking in your brain like psychopath/sociopaths do).

Probably better for him to serve life in prison than take the chance and expend the effort on rehabilitation.

And to the people wondering why we have to keep paying for him to live and can't just kill him. We're not. We're paying to keep him off the streets and it makes negligable difference to your bank account to do so. We're not savages anymore (or at least, we're not supposed to be) so you can't just kill someone and life in prison is far worse than dying with a smug sense of satisfaction for what he did. Let the years take their toll on him psychologically and maybe a few hard knocks here or there from fellow inmates whilst we look the other way and maybe one day he'll realise the gravity of the monster he is, maybe...

I grew up listening to their music though and can't quite bring myself not to listen to it occasionally. Saw them live when I was 13, thank fk I'm ugly as sin.

I have to say if any of that is true (regular visits from fan girls, his attempts to line up in jail
Visitation with a child etc etc) it is remarkably depressing.

As an Anglo Irish I’ve never considered the death penalty as adequate since the days of the G4 and B6. The options for miscarriage are vast and the problem of no redress is vast.

Nevertheless stuff like this makes me reconsider my view.

Permanent Electroconvulsive therapy should be used on him. Just wire him up and come back in a couple of years...

I am not convinced about that. Any studies you have read? I ask as I read an article about non-offending pedophiles a few years a go and we really don't know much about it, the whole subject is so toxic that there is very little research.

To turn it around what the hell would you do if you could identify a “baby-rapist” gene?

I don't think that is turning it around, and I don't think it would be a single gene, but I am not convinced that pedophilia doesn't have a genetic/physiological component.

its a sexual preference one which few have thoes that do on the whole proably surpress it due to social conditioning nurture v nature and a tiny tiny fraction will act on thoes desires.

I doubt you can change it any more than you could make someone not gay etc.

Nature and nurture will play a part and its likely evolution on the whole has removed many genetic traits of being a peado.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't have.

I've heard a few people locally say he was a nice enough person in brief encounters. None of them were teenage girls at the time they met him though.

Agreed.

For those that doubt, think about the type of person you're attracted to; brunette, long legs etc etc. Now try and imagine not being attracted to that type. I don't just mean avoiding those types when you go out on the pull but literally not having any feelings whatsoever when you see someone of that "type". Pretty hard to do, right?

Rehabbing a burglar is relatively simple; teach them a trade, get them better qualifications so they can get themselves a half-decent job and earn a living honestly. I would imagine very few of that type of offender do so purely for the thrill so give them another option and the possibility exists that they'll take it.

What possible alternative can you give someone like Watkins that will satisfy him?

Wow, that's a bleak outlook for humankind, so you don't think a person with an addiction can fight that addiction ?

Millions of people have given up fags, booze, gambling, drugs, they now lead normal lives.

That doesn't mean they wouldn't love a ciggie or a pint but, they resist the urge, because they have taken control
of their life .

I would suggest it's entirely possible to resist the urge to watch, collect or indulge in child porn if that person wants to
badly enough.

Smiler.

This is completely different. What you're suggesting is one can change their sexual preferences. This isn't true to my knowledge, or experience.
