He had a team of Barristers, a law firm (Reed Smith) and a PR agency working for him over 9 weeks, it soon mounts up!

2 partners, 3 associates and 2 trainees if they were working full time would rack up around £25k a day on their own assuming they were on it "solid". That's £1.1m before you even talk about the barristers or any other costs.

Jobs and/or cash for the boys (and girls). When your customers have can't choose to take their customer elsewhere, you can spend as much as you fking well like on whatever the fk you like.

This kind of thing irks me too - in public life, the first reaction to criticism seems to be to set up multiple enquiries, and, despite the fact that we're a bit short of money, unlimited resources seem to be immediately available. Who is able to instantly authorise such expenditure?

By comparision, my daughter started a new role in the NHS recently and is supposed to have a laptop. She's been forbidden from using her own for patient confidentiality reasons. She's 4 months into the job and it apparently still hasn't been approved.
