Tell me how you secure a smartphone using your home wifi? How would the average person do that? Neighbours of mine don't even know how to install anti virus.
If you can't operate it, learn, don't buy it, or deal with the consequences. Don't expect me to deal with them for you. Now, think a little deeper. It's not just about porn. It's about the government deciding what people should and should not be allowed to see, all hidden in righteous "think of the children" language of course. It'll start with porn, then move on to other things. Such censorship is a dangerous road, all the more dangerous because people don't see it coming.

Those were the days, catalogues and if you were lucky a French film (with subtitles) on Channel 4 once a month. There is no force in the Universe strong enough to stand between a young man and his quest for pr0n. All they will successfully do is breed an entire generation of Labour voters. Depriving young lads of smut will be enough reason for every 18 year old to vote against them. All the opposition has to do is to promise to rescind the pr0n ban and they'll be in No.10 before the ballotts are in.
That such a newspaper is being listened to by our "leader" is more worrying. If this madness ever goes through, but stocks in VPN providers, Playboy and Kleenex (cos it will all end in tear). Yes, tears.

I feel sorry for young lads today (and the girls they'll be anatomically unfamiliar with) if the ban takes effect, I mean it's not like you can go to the nearst hedgerow to mine a few jazz mags out these days.

This +100You want a censored version of the Internet, you organise it for yourself. If you can't trust your kids, get better at parenting.
How easy is it to aply filters to stop kids getting on porn websites?
What about creating a .xxx domain and then filtering any porn websites that aren't on that domain (basically create an adult sex shop of the net, rather than selling all the sex toys in Tesco alongside everything else).
Then as a parent you can just block all .xxx websites in one go.

Is it not simply a case of opting in, or out. I don't believe in full censorship. Once your old enough to understand, and make your own choices, then the government shoudn't censor anything on the net.

Well, blocked. And you have to opt in. Or out. Or something.

This made me laugh, another example of how clueless the Daily Mail is;
what they mean is that private individuals opt in or out for porn but it will be difficult to know what public wi-fi settings are, not that they use a different internet. most, if not all public wifi services will opt in and ban porn.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2250809/Vi...

Mr Cameron’s intervention follows a concerted campaign for an automatic block by this newspaper and will be welcomed by campaigners on child internet safety, although concerns remain about how the Government plans to address children accessing porn via their own smartphones, and phones and tablets such as iPads using public wi-fi.
Do they think smartphones, tablets and public wifi all use a different internet?Edited by Oakey on Thursday 20th December 17:47

This +100I've yet to hear from anyone sensible why this is a big issue.

You should be able to do something like this via your router, but I can assure you that it doesn't work 100%What about creating a .xxx domain and then filtering any porn websites that aren't on that domain (basically create an adult sex shop of the net, rather than selling all the sex toys in Tesco alongside everything else).

Adding particular words will get some PH threads blocked, yet some porn sites do get through. Adding porn site adresses works in the majority of cases, but for some reason not on all.

How would it be your problem, you would just ask for unrestricted access, I would ask for restricted?

So anyone who disagrees with you is not sensible? This from someone who appears to be unable to turn 'safe search' on in Google Images? I've yet to hear from anyone sensible why this is a big issue.

You're defeating your own argument here, by continually saying that it doesn't work, while at the same time calling for it to be applied wholesale across the country.Adding particular words will get some PH threads blocked, yet some porn sites do get through. What would happen is that ISPs would err on the safe side and apply heavy filters which blocked out a lot of innocent stuff. So you have to ring them up every time you want such a page which is blocked, and I imagine the response is not going to be super-rapid. It also means that the ISPs will need teams of people to deal with it, meaning higher bills for all of us. Anyone who's got experience of internet filters at work and trying to get IT departments to unblock pages will know that the practicalities of this don't add up for a minute.
Which is clearly the realisation that the government has come to.
