Dangerous territory for anyone to comment on and not look like a right wing nutter.

Although I would like to just highlight all the old geezers, and gals, who risked life and limb for this country during WW2.
Proper risked life and limb.
All the old boys who fought for the country.
Looked into the eyes of death, and neither flinched, or shirked.
The forgotten heroes who survive on a puny pension.
Forgotten.
Disgraceful.
The freedom we enjoy is because of their actions.

I would imagine we would see a more than a few conscientious objectors if the whole scenario were to somehow repeat itself.
Deserters being shot at a post.
A good indicator of patriotism is that test, the one where you would face your enemy, and fight to the death to keep your family and country safe.

Just saying.

I was ready to respond to the OP in detail, but then I remembered two things that have often proven true

1 - You can't reason someone out of a position that they haven't reasoned themselves into
2 - The best possible outcome from arguing with an idiot is that you have won an argument with an idiot.

I do have to ask what your big issue with homosexuals is though? I *genuinely* can't understand how you can care that much about what other consenting adults do in privacy and yet I hear people banging on and on about it endlessly. Who's sexual feelings are you really so very worried about?

Ah, but which ones? wink

The brown ones? Black, yellow, white, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Christian? The offspring of deported criminals?

Or, we could look at their children and all the homes they have had built to shove these people off into, the companies their parents created which they have asset stripped and the massive debt they've accumulated that their children will now be slaves to servicing. wink

But nothing says 'thanks' better than a cheaply built residential home staffed by the cheapest labour.

Now there's a depressing post.

I had all my kids around for boxing day. They turned up from around 10am and the last left around 10 hours later. To carry on the same numerical theme, there were 10 of us, plus 3 grandchildren and 2 dogs.

Everyone got on, with a lot of laughter and talking. Dinner was merry, with everyone having the mickey taken out of them, apart from the dogs and grandchildren. After the last one left I went with my wife out in the kitchen to clear up and everything had been done for us.

My wife said: We've done well. I wouldn't change a thing.

The assumption is that one of the 'things' is me.

So I have to say that I disagree with the OP. I've still got that glow of self-satisfaction, an unusual feeling for me it has to be said.

None of my kids are in debt apart from mortgages. All seem very happy with their choice of partners. I get on with all my kids and they seem to like me.

The only downside was that one of the dogs has bad breath.

I'll proably be back with self doubt in a week or two but in the meantime I'm going to enjoy the unaccustomed smugness.

Seeing as you have quoted a lot of stuff that doesnt really have any evidence and is fueled by the media how do you feel when it is aimed back at you? are you sure you WORKED in the local government for 43 years of did you do the bare minimum whilst milking the sick day allowance, gaining a incremental pay rise each year, regularly striking over pay, resisting change and building a gold plated final salary pension that you are now enjoying?

See, its easy to spout stereotypical media arguments.

And the reality is that this is how it was for most people. Despite the DM and psychotic ex State employees wanting the world to believe that Eastenders is a documentary. smile

Really, or do you read inaccurate stories about Elf'n'Safety written by the likes of Richard Littlejohn? Ask a steelworker about Health and Safety regulations.
gvb said:
also MPs/BBC Executives and numerous big businesses taking us taxpayers for every penny they can.

I'm confused how this can be part of point 1; MP's, BBC execs and "numerous big businesses" are strange bedfollows let alone with H&S regs. I take it that you believe MP's are paid too much and/or claim too much in expenses, BBC execs are overpaid and some companies either pay their staff too much or overcharge for products and services. I'm afraid to say that this all comes under the heading of "No st Sherlock".
gvb said:
Point 2/.Famous people are being outed as possibly being guilty of sexual offences years ago.
Is this a complaint? If so is your complaint that the statute of limitations is too long or that famous people are being investigated?
gvb said:
Point 3/.In addition to this we have followers of various religions all insisting that theirs is the only way.
What on earth do you expect? That's their job; the Chief Rabbi is hardly about to stand up and declare that the Pope had it right all along is he?
gvb said:
Point 4/. Being heterosexual seems to be old fashioned and almost against "the rules".
Hogwash. Society is more tolerant of homosexuality now than it used to be, though treatment under the law is still unequal.
gvb said:
Point 5/. We bow down in subservience to Europe and consequently we get stuck (at great cost) with terrorists in our prisons and multitudes of unwanted/illegal immigrants all claiming benefits.
By Europe do you mean the EU, the other countries in Europe or the ECHR? Do bear in mind that a lot of the time blaming "Europe" is an easy line for a UK politician to take because the hard-of-thinking will lap it up.
gvb said:
The sooner UKIP takes power the better!
If you say so, though I suspect you'll be waiting a while and your utopian dreams longer still.
When you go out to destroy a post, your give it both barrels, don't you.
Rebuttal
Point 1/Steel workers - what steel workers!!! Sod "elf & safety" - I'm sure that the very few left would rather have job security at the moment - eh!
Hmm - I understand your confusion to a degree but - "strange bedfellows" - really, there but for Levinson etc, etc. The MEDIA (which surprisingly includes the BBC) , MP's and Big Business may make "strange bedfellow" however unfortunately we know that there has (and still is) been a whole series of disclosures that prove the exception to your flawed theory. Just look at how the merry go round is financed and influenced. Yes of course the BBC is above all of this (!?) - however there are certain allegations that it has been covering up even more immoral scenarios - now that's another sad tale.
Lets not forget that the BBC is big business under a different guise!! Big business of course pays all of it's taxes don't it! Well if that is your take on it ("no st Sherlock") fine - we can just let them continue in the same vane.
2/ Pointless issue I agree. Mind you is it becoming a witch hunt!!
3/It's his point of view and he is entitled to it as much as you or I - after all free speech and all that.
His point is as valid as any other.
4/Maybe a dyslexic issue - he does not mention homosexuals at all - it's heterosexuals he is discussing - but of course in some circles that's just not PC!
5/ Now you are just being argumentative just for the sake of it!
So you think that the EU/ECHR is doing really well do you and that it's just all "smoke and mirrors" by the likes of UKIP and even a number of very high profile members of the three main parties. There are massive problems that are on the verge of taking us all over the financial precipice - honest!
But of course you are entitled to your opinions as much as anyone else!
