Apologies if a repost but:

Sir Wiggins

Yes, he's done a heck of a lot for Cycling / Sport etc but is it enough for a knighthood...?

Also, Sir Dave Brailsford who's moved cycling into the mainstream as a sport, good to see him recognised.

I don't see why Wiggo doesn't deserve it, with any honour you can argue the toss if it's deserved, but honours aren't just given out to anyone, only 1068 this time between 60m of us, everyone has to be recommended, every one who's recommended doesn't get one, he deserves it more than some politicans etc IMO.

Considering other knighthoods that get dished out, he should have been given a peeridge

The thing that annoys me is Cherrie Blair and Hector Sants getting awards, it also seems that if you are a civil servant you have a much higher chance of getting an award.

No, he shouldn't, although agree 100% with the other bit. Cycling is very much a cause celebre at the moment.

He doesnt come across as someone who would necessarily support the concept of a knighthood.

I'm surprise Jimmy Savile doesn't get a knighthood given he's in the papers a lot - seems to be the criteria...

Had it, removed when dead but surely he's in the news again give him it back.

Famous, good or bad, alive or dead surely it doesn't matter anymore - as long as you're famous a Knighthoods yours...

You can't have it both ways, there is an argument that a knighthood ceases when someone dies because becoming a knight is really becoming a member of the Order of the Bath for which you need to be alive. So if he lost it on death he can't have it back because he's still dead.

But on the other hand he obviously said yes to the offer - unlike, say, Danny Boyle, who reportedly tuned down the offer of some form of honour for his work on the opening ceremony.

Hence you didn't even need to spell it out.

Nevermind.

I'm surprised if he accepts it. Doesn't seem the type to go for that stuff as he's clearly uncomfortable with all the attention he's received.

Especially as Danny Boyle turned his down.

He's already accepted it, they ask them before announcing it, that's why Danny Boyle isn't on the list.

Great that Wiggo got recognised for his achievements both as a consistent Olypmpian but also winning Le Tour which is one of the greatest sporting achievements by a Brit certainly in my lifetime. The problem they have with the honours list is that they aren't consistant Kelly Holmes got made a Dame for winning twin golds in Sydney but Farah didn't get a knighthood...and he's had much more success away from the Olympics than Holemes did? You'd also have to say Murray being the first Brit to win a Grand Slam event in 70 or 80 years and a gold medal is a much bigger achievement than say Kath Granger or Jess Ennis winning a gold at these Olympics ? Not saying the last two aren't deserving but surely Murray is at least an equal ?

But hey there again these things are given away like sweets now....look at Bob Paisley....six league titles and three European Cups in nine years and a few other odds and sods and all he got was an OBE ?!?!

I would agree but his attitude may have changed once he was offered it, as it often does.

I don't think these awards have meant much for many years, nothing new this year with the Olympians being very predictable. Only surprising that Coe wasn't made King or something.

I heard him being interviewed about it. He said people can just call him Bradley. Apart from his wife and kids who must call him "Sir". biggrin
