I would have more respect for Ken Livingstone rejecting the honour if he himself hadn't announced the fact that he had rejected it.

I understand that Danny Boyle is believed to have rejected an honour, which would imply he has not been so keen to make his objections as clear as Mr Livingstone.

The Danny Boyle approach would seem a far better approach to me, than Livingstone who announced it on his radio show.

But Danny Boyle isn't a politician who has always been against the honours system. Seems quite reasonable to me that Livingstone should use the fact that he was offered and rejected an honour to advance his argument for the abolition of the whole system. He wants to undermine the system, which he sees as corrupt. Fair play to him.

Not even sure why he was offered one in the first place. Wasn't his partner his PA at the GLA on 6 figures? Obviously she got that job on her ability alone.

Quite. I just couldn't believe Hector Sants of the FSA has been knighted. He's a horrible little puffed up toad of a man who presided over a regulatory regime which allowed the PPI scandal, swaps scandal, Northern Rock and other bank failures, he let mortgage lending run out of control leading to the credit crunch and god knows what else.

In any decently run country he'd have been out on his arse years ago, but here in the UK he pays himself and his FSA mates a fat bonus, clears off to Barclays on £3m a year and now gets a gong. Like someone above says, we need to take a long hard look at ourselves.
That was a breakdown in communications. When his name was put forward the recommendation was that he should get knotted.

PH is laughable.

  • One thread saying people aren't fit to receive awards.

Silly comment really. PH is has a large number of contributors so not surprising there are a range of views and opinions.

Yeah, but even PH can be a bit hypocritical at times, eg Fairpak victims got no sympathy whatsoever, but IceSave victims were crying into their cornflakes. MGR going out of business, no concern for those jobs, but the banks start to get a kicking and everyones job is too important to lose. As well as the obvious MGR going out of business and then people complain about "no manufacturing in the UK" whilst they drive a German built car. Stuff like that smile

Silly comment really. You should see the number of times people crop up arguing polar opposites in different threads.
