But we have the option don't we.

Politicians do have to lie or go back on a promise, circumstances change and objectives re-aligned, that is why they are politicians, we should expect no different from them, however... we don't expect the police to be as bad as our politicians, they don't have the same pressures forcing u-turns upon them.

It is the recent attempts of some officers to emulate the conniving of politicos that has dropped the entire force in the mire of public contempt.
I don't think we do have the option to sack them, not as individuals. I'm stuck with my current MP despite being a multiple disqual, who says to children on the phone that they are a sex god and who has been described as the most sexist mp in parliament. He also told a lie about Princess Di.

We also have mps who have fiddled their expenses remaining in their post. Nothing here about having to go back on a promise, although one assumes they did promise to be honest.

Would you like a list of the proven dishonest mps still in parliament. I don't know the figures but I would bet a considerable sum that a much higher percentage of mps have been imprisoned than police officer and any PC found to have fiddled his expenses would have to pay them back, be disciplined and would be sacked.

I feel certain that if any PC had fiddled £13,000 from his expenses he would have not been allowed to lead a dog, let alone the country.

The PC, whom we are told made a false statement, is suspended and might well have to go to court. If he is found to have told a lie he will probably be dismissed regardless of the outcome of the court case.

Many do have second jobs in case they get ejected, that is true.

I never saw the MP expenses scandal in quite the same light as many people did, I'll explain my thinking if I may...

1/. MPs for years had their pay capped, this was the headline pay.

2/. During the same time all the other state employees got raises, most especially the police.

3/. It was just a sleight of hand however by the MPs, their 'getaround' was expenses and it was used throughout that time, so although the wages stagnated when yours, Derek, rose hugely they got it another way. But they got their 'pay rise'.

4/. For those not aware of this fact or who purposefully remember to forget this little truth wax lyrical anger at them, whilst they themselves pocketed huge pay rises. It's a sort of bigotry... mild, but ever-present.

Police got 2.5% of not a lot at the last rise. MPs average £140000 (one hundred and forty thousand pounds) in expenses. Plus 'directorships', plus 'advisor' roles. But it's the Police that did well?????
You really do come out with some truly pathetic arguments.

I'm never rude, but you like to be so I'll just accept it a compliment, cheers.

I am talking about in those days when the expenses started to expand and the MPs voted themselves no pay rise, it's a long time ago, it was first used to hit the Doctors when they were first curbed and nurses and the police got (from memory) 11%.

MPs did it for years on end whilst the police gained amongst the highest awards.

BTW, it's not an argument, the MPs themselves were fully aware of the system, there is no 'argument' just plain fact.

Where did you get that figure from?

The most expensive was the SNP at just under £50k and the average is just over £30k.

Extraordinary figures from you Elroy Blue, but pure fantasy.

I am never rude, condescending but never rude.

No, the reason was that we had to keep going back too far to correct your erroneous assertions, slowing the thread (see Website Feedback) the thread stalled as a result.

Of course you can ask, just as much as you can get things wrong.

Now... do you have something constructive to add?

Thought so. Thanks.
