That does seem to be the reality of this affair. Pistorius is treated with kid gloves and the victim is forgotten totally. It certainly does not bode well for a sensible sentence of 10 years or more.. But currently seems most unlikely to me. Pity for the victim and her family. Just have to wait and see.
I wouldn't be too surprised if this just ends up with the Steenkamp family having to pay for a replacement toilet door.

Will the threats of retribution from those already inside the prison system influence the judges decision. Part of me says it shouldn't, yet the idea of OP's head being paraded on a stick by some lifer would hardly be the best message to send put regarding the efficiency of the prison system. I'd be surprised now if he ends up inside.

I agree, it wasn't a particularly helpful contribution, was it?!

This seems to be all about the Judge, Oscar, South Africa - the victim has well and truly been forgotten.

exactly. The lack of discussion about that poor girl and the absolute horror she went through that night is just extraordinary. Just imagine being those poor parents having to sit through this bullst farce every single day of this trial.

I wonder if it would be better for him to actually do time, rather than a non-custodial, which many, most even, would view as akin to OJ Simpson's situation.

Still hoping the Judge does her systematic bit and comes to a decent custodial sentence.

Even Roux said the report could be BS. It's a non story. How exactly did a journalist interview this guy. For all we know the defence could have leaked the story to use for this very purpose. OP will be segregated, no question about it. Hospital part of the prison

I expect 5 years - low security 4 star prison. Gives him a chance to rebuild his career.

I can only agree. The words of Stephen Ward in the trial consequent to the Profumo affir summed such Legal shenanigans up well. "This is not Justice". The Pistorious trial could well be summarised in those words.

The Judge and Counsel have lost all consideration for the dead victim and her family. This is not Justice but a courtroom drama played out to make the protagonists look good. Dreadful business and where is the victim is all this. Dead long ago and very likely to be to be forgotten totally by this circus. Dreadful business.

I'd be very surprised if such a place existed in SA.

Only you will crow, insult and belittle if the sentence is high. Makes no difference to the way this trial has been conducted-you miss the point completely. You aren't even interested in the case. Just here to troll/insult.

OJ was loved but an outcast-OP will also be an outcast. He won't be able to go anywhere without being treated like a freak show. His new career will be selling his story, writing a book, interviews.

you're trying to be a smart ass and sneer at what people are talking about but you really don't get it. For one - culpable homicide has no maximum or minimum term in SA. What people are annoyed about, watching this grim, pathetic, fatuous farce plsy out on their television, is that it all appears to be about OP rather than the horrible, grisly death that his girlfriend suffered when he pumped a hand cannon into her in a fit of rage.

I'm talking about what we have seen paraded this week - that fking parole officer and the rest of them who have all said OP shouldn't go to jail because he might find it somewhat unpleasant. And stuff like this morning saying he's suffered enough because he's lost his earnings potential. He fking slaughtered his girlfriend. She's dead. He's sitting there every day pretending to vomit and cranking out crocodile tears.

Rubbish- it's discussion on the way this trial has been run and the apparent special treatment.

and he'll walk out of that court with a suppressed grin, as he does his community service or whatever pathetic punishment he gets , just like the scrotes in this country do once their lawyers have put their "boohoo - he's had a hard life" arguments as mitigation against awful crimes that have genuine victims. In this case that poor girl and her poor parents
