Very compelling. How her father has kept is grace and dignity is a testament to the deep inner strength of the man.

He's going to jail. Crocodile tears or selfish tears, no matter, he's going to jail.

As the father of two daughters I can't even begin to imagine the pain the Steenkamps are going through. Just utterly awful.

Do you really need to ask?
Yes. I'm genuinely interested just how far this farce departs from what we might see in a televised UK court

I have no idea what possible bearing these random fking people have on his culpability for murder. It's just insane

Should they not be focussing on the evidence from the scene, etc. rather than what has happened to him since he went to prison?

It doesn't help that they all sound like they have an IQ of about 50.

His culpability of murder is in question because of the effect of the prison sentence for culpable homicide on his delicate little ego. It's just not fair that the angry, gun-happy, man who brutally murdered his girlfriend, with a cricket bat and a gun, should be punished for that, when he's already suffered a year or so in a hotel with locks on the doors.

Desperate stuff from the defence here. "yes it seems pretty obvious that he killed her in a bloody rampage. But what if there's a tiny possibility that he didn't?"
Well there's a tiny possibility that an Alien beamed down with a laser gun and did it but I think we can safely assume Oscar slaughtered her in a rage

This guy is talking fast - I can't follow his point through the legalese, actually.

I think he's trying to say ''Yes, he shot Reeva, but don't forget you believed him when he said that it was a mistake and that he thought it was a burglar'' which isn't really the point. The Supreme court or whoever found that his intention to kill existed, regardless of who was behind the door. Surely that means that the fact that it wasn't Reeva is somewhat immaterial? (Mind you, I don't think for a second that most people believe that he didn't know it was her)

Only immaterial to guilt.

It's entirely material to sentencing.

If it was a moment of panic in self defense (which is essentially the defence arguement) that is a mitigating circumstances.

If he knew it was Reeva, it becomes mallicious and cold blooded. The motive is significantly more callous and cruel. That has to be reflected in sentencing (assuming life sentence it could be the difference between up for parole in ten or up for parole in 30 and you'd be blydi lucky to get it)

Roux reminds the court that Pistorius’ mental and physical vulnerabilities were taken into account in his first sentencing.

Pistorius has punished himself and will punish himself for the rest of his life, far more than any court can, he says.
