Sad.

Hopefully we'll get a re-run of the Good Life soon.
Absolutely. It must be at least a whole fortnight since it hasn't been on.

Sad news, a great actor both of comedy and in serious roles. Also the voice of Rhubarb and Custard, one of the definitive programmes of my youth. RIP, a true gentleman.

Richard Briers said "The ciggies got me. I didn't think it would go quite as badly as it has. It's a bugger, but there it is. I used to love smoking."

79 after 50 years of smoking? I'd say he got away with it. So long, Mr. Briers.

A class act, RIP Mr Briers. A fine actor and old school gentleman. I never tire of watching your classic characters, particularly Tom Good and Martin Brice.

Nooo! RIP to a superlative actor. The Good Life is one of my favourite programmes and Briers played Tom Good to perfection. About November/December time my sister coined the nickname 'Richard Briers' for me based on similarities in appearance, basically the same hairstyle and a fondness for knitted jumpers."

His character in ever decreasing circles reminded me so much of my Dad. They were the same age and as they got older speaking to Dad has seemed more and more like being in a Briers sitcom. I Must call the old man.

He was very funny in the episode of Extras he was in, proving that he could still appeal to a younger audience.

A sad loss. RIP. frown

Very sad, he was one of those personalities that everyone could relate to someone, almost feels like I've just lost a grandparent..

Page two, and no one has mentioned Felicity Kendal's arse?* Truly, a testament to the respect in which the man was held.

He was a pretty decent classical actor, too - he was in one or two of the BBC's TV Shakespeares of the 70s and 80s, IIRC.

PS: also Lear, Malvolio, and Uncle Vanya on stage - that shows a good range.

Second cousin to TT I think.

I thought he was an outstanding comic actor and clearly a gentleman in real life. His Shakespearean efforts demonstrated his versatility and classical ability. A truly unique talent. RIP.

From the Manchester Evening News:

He would have probably found it funny though - them cutting his head of the pic.

Very sad. Read a recent interview with him and his good friend Prunella Scales. Was v interesting,

He did mot like Tom Good, thought he was selfish. He wasn't really in contact with Felicity Kendall, described her as a sl odd lady and realised that emphysema was a bds condition to end up with, the price he paid for enjoying his cigarettes.

Was always good in everything he did, will be missed.

Raise your hands in the air and smoke a tab to him.

I really pray, (in a non religious educated normal type bloke), that he is never victim of the Jimmy Saville peado crew.
Genuinely sad to see him go, never have i seen him in a negative role, (plus he had Felicity Kendall before she went Yankey Doodle Dandy).

Top man!

I'll second that. Don't usually comment on these type of threads but he made me smile, and that is a good thing. All in all, I think he had a good life, so nothing to be sad about.
