This is a bit of a coup. A long serving Lib Dem can't very easily be dismissed as BNP in a suit, and the fact that he cites environmental reasons for leaving the Lib Dems really sticks the boot in. Only it's that pesky sort of environmentalism that opposes building o Friday greenbelt rather than the lofty sort that champions taxing cars to appease the climate fairies.

Bugger, I was seriously contemplating the UKIP party as well. Don't think the Lib Dems can do much good for them though.

No UKIP seat though, are they any closer than a few months ago to getting themselves together enough to get an MP elected?

Enough to swing a byelection though. Winning seats would be nice, but it's more about the pressure it puts on the Tories to make a deal. Preferably from a position of desperation.

Oh bugger , so they arnt happy just screwing up torys they want to do the same to UKIP!!! but realy I dont think UKIP is particulaly right wing most of the policys seem to be the views of the average working person so maybe they have a place for the more sensible lib dems or labour even, say Frank field or kate hoey for instance...

Yes of course they are sensible and the view of the majority I feel. It's the left who will do their usual whenever there is a political foe they fear - they will brand them as 'far right' (helped by left wing media sympathisers) as a way of dismissing them and scaring off voters.

Every journey starts with a few steps!!! the labour party isnt 100 years old yet, so if people stop wasting their votes on the big three who knows??

Apparently not. I think as this UKIP thing gathers strength it's more like an anti established parties vote than a purely Eurosceptic movement.

I dislike nearly every policy of the modern Lib Dems, but in theory I would describe myself as more of a liberal than a conservative. I believe in a small, remote government intervening as little as possible in the lives of the citizens. I believe in personal freedom and personal responsibility. The right to be different, and the right for minorities to be protected from the tyranny of the majority.

The modern Liberal Democrat party is the bd child of wet socialism and political opportunism, to such an extent that most people you'd describe as classical liberals would rather vote Tory and listen to the odd wind bag ranting about family values, than vote Lib Dem and be "represented" by someone who is basically a socialist, and whose only concern for liberty is as it relates to his chosen trendy causes and groups.

How can anyone take the Libdems seriously, UKIP should reject any of their MP's from scurrying over, they are trying to save their own political skin.
Who needs them, certainly not the tories as they are finding out to their cost that coupled with a weak leader our Dave & a floudering fool for a chancellor. The only regret about the libdems is that David Laws did not keep his job instead of the fool Alexander, Law is a very astute political brain & lets be fair George could really do with the help !

I too believe myself a libertarian over and above anything else.

Your post is spot on.

It was actually Cameron who said they were far right (and nutters).

It is not unusual for libdems to defect though. I live in Libdemograd and six local politicos have defected to the tories over the years. The mayor (a nice man but knowledge free) fell out with the lib dem herd and finished up being kicked out of the party just on the strength of his libertarian views. Mind you years ago they kicked out the current mayors husband cos he tried to interfere with little boys.

Cue some high-order swivel-eyed character assassination of the lady concerned - from the PH 'kippers. Farage will probably just keep his head down for a while - curious how he just disappears from public view when there's any bad news.

In my opinion the likes of ukip need more voters to keep the other two on their toes, theve got away with too much for too long. why am i paying MPs
to practice stand up comedy every week?.
