I was wondering why we give overseas aid based on 0.7% GDP shouldn't we pay all our bills first, and then give Aid .
So basically it should be 0.7% NDP (net domestic product)
i.e. fk all as we are broke !!
who agrees ?

AID = official line
BRIBES = line with more truth in it.

Yeah, just saw this on the news, major piss boiler with the state this countries in, and not only that, it's gone up from 8.3 billion last year to 11. Something this year!!!! It's a fking joke, just pissing our money up countries that either waste it on dictators or internal wars. Just think what the 3 billion or so rise alone could do for schools, hospitals police etc... smash

Or perhaps we get business from these countries on the back of our donations

hIsn't the overseas aid budget a sort of PR budget? Just an idea.

Because that's the amount we signed up to give in the UN agreement.

If the general principle is making you puce with anger, how about turning green?

What's this 'WE' business. Some Politicians with their slimey little fingers in the pie signed up for it.

Aid...take from the poor of rich countries to give to the rich of poor countries. It's a national disgrace

How much is being taken from the poor? Do you know how our taxation system works?

I don't buy the (dubious) defence that foreign aid is a polite word for bribing foreign officials. Let companies do the bribing if needed, otherwise it's still just a form of subsidy.

Surely the Bribery Act 2010 makes that impossible?

I'm sure we also have guidelines and even laws prohibiting the government from bribing foreign officials, and even if not the moral hazard it puts in the way of whoever decides where our aid goes to is probably worse than letting the companies do it themselves.
