Let companies do the bribing if needed, otherwise it's still just a form of subsidy.
Surely the Bribery Act 2010 makes that impossible?
So let the companies who profit from foreign sales donate money to a charity close to the heart of the people buying stuff from them ( tongue firmly in cheek there BTW )

On the fence on this one.

Aid to plces such as India appears to often co-incide with their desire to purchase certain products.

Im sure at a political level there is a discreet push from the UK to persuade these countries to purchase items from the UK - Hawk 'Training' jets for example.

Money that then flows bak into the UK economy, and gets paid to workers who spend it on pasty's etc.

Some of it I assume goes on appeasing foreign despots who then allow Uk interests access to resources etc, either through buying rights to drill for oil, or as sweeteners to other deals which benefit the political interests of either the UK or the politicians themselves.

I woud assume some also goes on actual 'aid' which turns into a political chesspiece to be used as negotiating leverage during security council meetings, UN meetings etc etc.

Trouble is other countries are doing it also. Other countries have different leverages so may not need to use this method.

Maybe I should just put my tinfoil hat back on.
