Labour have been a shambles in Bradford which means that Galloway is slight favourite with the bookies.

Despite assurances from Ed Miliband's office that an all-women shortlist would not be imposed to find a candidate to fight Galloway, the party's National Executive Committee ultimately decided that only women could apply for the seat.

The party denies that such a promise was ever made and says they "make no apology" for imposing female shortlists.

But it was after the shortlist was produced in February that things begin to get very murky.

Newsnight has been told that that first contest was "absolutely fixed to choose the weakest candidate", with local members acting together in protest at central interference.
The lady in question quit a day or 2 after being selected. laugh

But in any case, embarrassingly she withdrew within days of winning the position, leaving the party without a candidate just weeks from the general election, fighting a seat against one of the most effective political campaigners around.

A selection panel this week then chose Naz Shah, who had come last in the members' hustings and supported Mr Galloway in 2012.

They realised, too late, there's no chance of Muslims voting for a woman.

She don't give a st.

They can conveniently be disregarded when her husband is up for a safe seat and as if by magic she doesn't turn up for that particular meeting,

That's completely true. The female Muslim MPs in the UK and people like Benazir Bhutto or Khalida Zia never had Muslims voting for them. yes

The first candidate parachuted in from London is why ordinary people more and more turn their backs on the mainstream parties. Naz Shah does have some life story though, I wish her well.

Jack Dromey; the only man to come top of an all-woman shortlist.

Did Rushanara Ali not take out Respect in Bethnal Green? Last time I looked she was a woman. The new Labour candidate in Bradford has a chance. And of course the majority of the constituency isn't Muslim. People deserve the leaders they get, especially if they don't turn out to vote.

Well, despite being a woman she was re-elected. And there have been quite a few other female politicians in Pakistan as well.

I had to go looking. I didn't know that. He refers to himself as a Jewish atheist, which is nice, at least he gets that right.

The brewery have claimed to be working on a new beer to be named in honour of Galloway. They say it will be weak, bitter and have a frothy head

It should be pungent, bitey, have tonnes of flavour and always be repeating on you, with a bitter after-taste.

#IsGeorgeGallowayStillAThing is starting to go viral.

Take a look at George Galloway voting record. Participated in only 8% of votes and claimed over 150% more expenses that MPs average.
