Does that mean - as I'd hope - that the nuclear facilities are staffed with armed police/the army? One of my father's arguments against nuclear energy is the risk of terrorist attacks/thefts. I can't imagine that any responsible govt. (ah well, what am I saying!) would leave plants so vulnerable and hope they are well protected.
Yep, Civil Nuclear Constabulary.
First time I had to go to Sellafield it was a bit unnerving being stopped at the checkpoint before the entrance and seeing 4 Police holding rifles with clear magazines showing off live rounds.

Now I just wonder if they ever get bored and pop the odd seagull when no-one is watching. Probably not.

They do lots of live fire training, so that probably scratches that itch, and keeps the seagulls safe.

AWE is staffed by MOD Plod - They have shooty sticks as well.
Yep - crime around AWE is extremely low as result, despite a large population of fine upstanding crime-free travelling folk in the area.

Silly thing is the armed BiB are highly unlikely to leave their posts to attend to normal police matters. However, the normal plod also have far more patrols too.

Yep the Sellafield lot practice a lot, I have a few blank rounds on my desk. They have site exercises all the time, I drove past Calder Hall on Saturday and along the far bank was 6 or 7 coppers shooting blanks at me, and a few more running across the road.

The main site exercises are a spectacle. All work shuts down, every is sent to assembly points and given a gas mask. Allegedly they have amputee actors come in and act as victims of the exercise, last one was a suicide bomber on main gate. Was fun.

They don't have many coppers near the gates now, there's a private security force doing it now.

When that taxi driver was getting all shooty in Wales, the closest armed people were at some facility (can't remember the name) - they went into lockdown.

I think if you try standing in front of them waving a gun at them would have the most success.

I had no idea about this. Very interesting. Bunch of nutters with quite flawed logic mind smile
