BBC News - Man killed in New Zealand shark attack

I've had a bit of a search online but I can't figure this one out, what possible reason is there for killing (or trying to kill) a shark that has injured/killed a human being? Are most that would likely attack a human not a protected species? As far as I can tell it's just a revenge thing, which is ridiculous.

The worse thing is we're probably attracting them in the first place with bait for tourists who want to cage dive with them etc.

I think, and I could be wrong, it is because people are morons.

People also seem to think that they should be allowed to go anywhere and do anything and that nature should let them, and if it doesn't then we need to kill the animals.

They want to kill it because once they find out people are tasty they'll tell their mates and before you know it we'll all be up to our knackers in flippin sharks!

Well, except people aren't tasty to sharks. You do not have enough fat (of course there are those who do their level best) to be a sufficient meal.

And we are killing them at a tremendous rate already, much to what should be humanties' shame.

This. It said on the news they were trying to recover the body and were somewhat hesitant to wrestle the sharks for it. Nothing to do with revenge.

If they needed a bigger boat in that film...how on earth did the Police think inflatable dingys would be sufficient!

Well, they'll probably be used to folk disappearing when they see the Police coming and probably thought the shark would do the same
