Wonder if OP hasn't replied as he's currently helping police with their enquiries. . . . . .

But is this quite that? Isn't it inducing the criminally-minded to identify themselves? Perhaps not prosecutable, but useful information.

I don't know, just asking.
"person 1 poses as a 15 yr old girl, gets the other person to meet up for sex"

That's inducing a criminal act. It's similar to randomly offering bribes to police officers or civil servants. Sure, you might "catch" a few, but those people may have lived their whole lives without ever committing an offence.

It's just wrong.

Also, what do you mean "useful information"? Useful for what? Are you proposing to put these people on a sex offenders register?
What do you mean by "gets the other person to"? Surely it depends on the content of the communications as to whether they induced the older person or not. Does a fish induce the fisherman to cast a net?

No different to what the police did to that wanna be terrorist.

They goaded him into following their own terrorist plan then arrested and jailed him for going along with it.

The last few terror plots foiled by the FBI are the exact same. They approached Muslims living in America who had recently lost family in the ME and convinced them Jihad was the way. Then they threw them in prison.

At the risk of stating the obvious, they haven't foiled a terror plot if it's the FBI's own plot.

Got any links?

There was a video posted about a week ago, it was from the guy's channel, and he seems to do it a lot.

I recently had to read up on entrapment - there are a number of cases and most deal with the Police going undercover to buy drugs with the suspect saying they would never have sold drugs but for the Police pressuring them into it. I believe R v Loosely is the main case.

As far as it relates to this I think if you just had the profile of a 15 year old up and the suspect was the one doing all the talking and taking the initiative it wouldn't be entrapment. On the other hand if the 'catcher' was the one being proactive then its questionable.

As for prosecutions - as long as the 'catcher' can provide all the evidence then I don't see why not. I doubt the video on its own of the meet is anywhere near enough.

I don't honestly see where the entrapment views are coming from tbh. I don't lurk in chatrooms that are used by teenage girls, nor do I look at their profiles on social networking sites.

This doesn't seem like something you accidentally find yourself being coerced or pressured into doing.

Lots of people remembering this show lately, god they used to keep me up at night, such a dark view of everything yet so so funny.

I think at the end of the day this kind of thing is a bit touch and go in my eyes, i dont want some slack jawed low brow mong becoming chief vigilante, who knows what bullst they might make up to get someone who wronged them in deep st.

It's like that whole people posting wrong pictures of venables, someone would of been at the end of some threats for something completely false.
