Painful viewing for Boris Johnson fans on AM show this morning, Eddie Mair is interviewing him about a BBC Documentary on later this week.
It was fantastic especially the comments re the dodgy phone call and his not answering the want to be leader question. Brown/Blair type battle there in the making. He's certainly not the loveable bafoon his spin doctors want you to believe he is.
Better say that no doubt this is Bbc bias. Lefty propaganda.

Boris certainly squirming like a squirming thing there. However, Eddie Mair really is an objectionable isnt he. What is it with so many of these BBC 'journolists' that makes them think they have to be the Ultra-Paxman at every opportunity?
Someone should tell them theres far more to incisive journolism that simply being rude to the person you're interviewing. Paxman only just gets away with it, they don't. I realy wish they'd stop it. Its the serious journolist equivilant of motoring journos trying to be like Clarkson. (yes Tom Ford im looking at you).

? Of course he isnt, havent we been saying that for a while? Boris is a power hungry politician with a different spin than the others. This is not a shock!
Exactly! He merely has a different USP to the others which makes him stand out from the herd but underneath is no different.neilr said:

Am I going to get a whoosh parrot for pointing out your strange spelling of journalist? He has lots of support on here.
He has my support because he has more facets to his personality and life than most of the others in his trade, Writer, TV game show host, Documentary presenter and Mayor of London. Who else has the wide interest range ? who else is as interesting ? Not any of the current crop of those in power and certainly not any of the opposition.Boris is interesting because he is not just a career politician who is obviously in it for power and expenses, he has more character and some of his views are quite different from the party line.

I actually think Eddie Mair is a pretty incisive interrogator. Isn't it the job of an interviewer to ask politicians awkward questions?
And then to let them finish their answers. The interviewee is more important than the interviewer, except in the 'mind' of those like Eddie and Paxo.neilr said:

Why? He's asked Boris some pointed questions about his past. Isn't that part of what journalists are meant to do?neilr said:

He hasn't been rude to him at all, as far as I can see.Eric Mc said:

I'm with Eric on this one. Eddie Mair is a very good interviewer and presenter who I used to enjoy listening to on Radio 4 when I was commuting. As well as the worst, he is also able to bring out the best in people, without ever raising his voice.Countdown said:
Spouting waffly bks isn't "finishing an answer"
Of course it is If that was allowed we would learn more from the interview and about the interviewee than otherwise. We might also hear something worth listening to, but if the opportunity is lost then we won't get either.

Yes, but as Boris tried to point out, what is important is what he is trying to achieve policy wise.Raking over his (Boris's) past personal foibles adds nothing to the debate about how we fix the country's problems. I've got a lot of time for Eddie Mair, but they got this one badly wrong.
Mair is a fine journalist and friend and under the humour he has a very incisive mind.
On every thread that mentions the sinister teddy-bear I have stated that I consider him to be the very worst sort of person, to me he is the living personification of of Animal Farms 'Napolean'.
The last Mayoral election was the struggle for power in Animal Farm in real time.
There is a visceral malevolence within him and the mask of avuncular humour occasionally slips.
