The Mail is having a go at NHS execs today quoting some astonishing salaries and practices.
One which particularly galled me was execs using a technique to help nurses who might not have such a good pension to carry on supplementing their pensions with working part time. The accusation by the Mail is of people secretly quitting for a day, withdrawing large tax free lump sums from pension, then working for a month or so part time to get past HMRC rules, then returning to their full time role at original salary.
Calm down dear. PHers have declared many times that nothing written in the Daily Mail is true. One which particularly galled me was execs using a technique to help nurses who might not have such a good pension to carry on supplementing their pensions with working part time. No doubt we'll be treated to a session of bullcrap bingo and extensive use of jargon and acronyms from the usual apologists. Oh of course forgot these people face violent abuse every day, or not. That's all right then.
it is my understanding that you cannot do that ... however if as a colleague of mine once did you retire from a fairly senior post and return as a bog standard band 5 you can work a good number of hours before it stops your prension

Does that mean this 2013 poke at the Conservative-led coalition simply made up the official figures that the W&P Secretary accepted? Those DM people are rascals, making up official figures that come from gov't and just happen to be correct. After all The Guardian would never deviate from absolute truth.
Good find, FiF.

I do know (not NHS) of situations where people have gone back to a very similar position and still drawn their pension, but after an absence of over a year or more. So the devil will be in the details somewhere.

Seems it's all OK:

We have a family member who was CEO of a small NHS Trust - far too nice a person to do that kind of job and he didn't last long once the axe started being wielded. He was a bit miffed that he didn't get taken out in the first round, as they were paying people's pensions as if they'd worked until 60, but there was a bit of outcry about that as it was costing millions for every CEO they got rid of.
Even so, his pension was enhanced such that his pension is like a little lottery win coming in every month - and it'll keep coming for the rest of his life.

their pensions are possibly not enough to live on,
I'm fairly sure this bit was tongue-in-cheek. Please tell me it was. The Times headline today: Child Protection Chief in New Payoff Scandal.
A senior child protection officer who was criticised for failing etc etc. Same old. Good taxpayers' money thrown after bad. In general there must surely be a common purpose in removing mediocre people without handing over wads of cash.

i would suggest there is indeed a common purpose involved, unfortunately to promote the exact opposite of what you propose.A senior child protection officer who was criticised for failing etc etc. Same old. HMRC, stellar performance - words you don't often see together.

It had to be Hodge commenting on tax, naturally

Stella performance on the HMRC piss up is the only such performance most of us might recognise.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/11656456/...

Clueless muppets.
Inefficient, no idea of cost/benefit, lazy incompetent staff with attitude, counterproductive policies.
And this is them trying to compete as a profit making company!
No wonder councils burn our money up faster than a silo of reclaimed plastic at a recycling storage facility.

TBF, trying to make a profit based council company when dealing with council tenants is thankless/nigh on impossibleInefficient, no idea of cost/benefit, lazy incompetent staff with attitude, counterproductive policies.

I had to laugh at the chap who 'went home' and didn't understand the problem with that though!
