Looks as if North Korea controls Hollywood now! We should perhaps take the more seriously?

Love this image - whatever Kim is sat at it looks like a old keyboard, with a rollerball mouse and a roof aerial. Whats even better is that its quite clear that the thing isn't even plugged in judging by the extension cable next to it.

I dont for one second believe they have the savvy to pull off this 'hacking Sony' business but now the US might have an excuse to send some of their military over there to give the NK army something to think about.
It's difficult to measure, but some South Korean researchers place North Korea 3rd in the world for cyber hacking after the US and Russia...

You can take some of the above claim with a pinch of salt, but a lone hacker could have probably penetrated Sony's network (a bit of social engineering and some brute force and you're in), so it would have been easy for the North Koreans if they wanted.

Given the amount of hardware the US have in South Korea they do give some fks.

2nd World War style artillery pointing south and a million troops armed with AK47s are still a concern if you live in Seoul...

much more likely it was password guessing; running a handful of passwords over many usernames/e-mail addresses.

it's not hacking, and you could do it from a spectrum.

You have to take N Korea seriously because they have nuclear weapons.

Sony have to take them seriously because they probably have some seriously bad st on them which they've threatened to release if that film were weleased.

The latter is what I suspect. I've not really been following the story but have heard ofleaked emails describing A-listers as having minimal talent, etc. I imagine there's a lot more that could be revealed. It could even get personal for some of the big cheeses at Sony. If someone has dirt, I'm sure they're just as liable to blackmail as your stereotypical teen girl with a webcam.

This is a $44M movie with more free publicity than they would ever have got by paying for promotion, it doesn't make any sense to cancel it worldwide.

The general consensus is to laugh at them and post more silly pictures - the reality (unbelievably) is they've just humiliated an Asian/US powerhouse. Whilst I don't applaud them it's quite impressive no matter what the PR says.

Someone on the radio hinted yesterday that Sony might (I said might) be glad to have it pulled because it's not been getting good reviews - as they said "we're not talking Citizen Kane here". What it will do is bump up interest in getting hold of the film so DVD sales should be sprightly. Ker-ching.

Much as that is an interesting idea, I don't think Sony would go to such lengths only to end up appearing to be a bunch of fraidy-cats.
