Greer on the Highways Agency
Discussion
I'm certainly no admirer of the HA - some of their signage positioning is a disgrace for starters - but have you noticed that whenever a politico wants some cash to spend on a pet project (HS2 anyone?) the transport budget gets a hit. Plenty of vested interests for the railways but few for better roads.
The roads infrastructure seems to be heading towards Third World.
Even a recently built local 'smooth' stretch is now showing potholes and worrying cracks. Round here in CMD land, like elsewhere, cracks and holes are drawn and painted around everywhere you look. Some cracks are worringly large.
By the time I got back home this morning from just an 8 mile round trip I felt like I'd driven twice the distance with all the avoiding action. The cost of putting all this right is gonna be horrendous.
However, will 'they' put it right or will we just go 'real' Third World?
Nah, that'll never happen here in rural Oxfordshire.
oh, wait a mo...

Also, Gove is possibly the worst thing to happen to the kids of this country. He truly is a stunningly incompetent bellend. If anyone deserves a rant it is him.
Dunno, the teaching unions hate him, he can't be all bad.Derek Smith said:
Howe much time do police officers spend harassing motorists as a percentage of their total time? Do you think it should be a free for all on the roads? Why should a libdem be sacked if there is a pothole? The libdems round my way are pushing for them to be filled in but the tory councilors refuse.
As for the education systems being girl oriented, Gove has changed all that. We are now going to learn dates, kings and wars instead of history, and will have rote learning tested instead of understanding. This, evidently, will wipe girls out.
If they are traffic cops surely they spend most of their time harassing motorists. For example one of the traffic cops on here defended prosecuting people for forming 2 lanes in order to ease congestion. Now the plonkers in gummint have made that particular bit of road 2 lanes to emulate what the common sense citizen was doing anyway I know they are just doing their job, but really the roads would be better off with no furniture, no silly rules, just duty of care to other road users controlled by insurance companies, (including the DVLA bit).As for the education systems being girl oriented, Gove has changed all that. Gove hasn't changed anything yet. He has wisely opened up with a nuke in order to get some sense of quality back into the system. How is educating girls properly going to wipe them out? Thats a silly notion. Teach then check with a exam, then quantify with an end exam. Stop all this working very very very very very very very hard and getting mummy to help with the course work, taking 5 resits and then ending with a degree from la la land university in climate change and ollogy.
You know this place is very deep in the sh1 and we can get out. By teaching skills for the future and making things and making certain anyone working against the economy is brought up short. (like bloody speed traps)
Employing more civil servants, allowing more quangos, persecuting law abiding citizens with no mandate to do so and dishing out little stars to people who cannot do arithmetic will never ever get us going. Gove is going the right way, all we need now is a chancellor to scrap corporation tax for manufactures and a transport minister to scrap the safety camera rubbish. We could start by sacking that Hogan hough idiot and making using a mobile phone part of the driving test.

As a nation, we are entering a phase of economic history which, IMHO, will be critical to our future economic power and prosperity. If we drop the ball from hereon in, we may become an irrelevant and terminally declining world power.

Off Topic, but what? Demonstrate the veracity of this please, if you can. Maybe a separate thread to prove your point?AnonSpoilSport said:
