...reclassify 2-bedroom properties as 1-bedroom. You really couldn't make it up.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshi...

So, given Labour are calling it a 'tax' (it's not, but let's hang them by their own petards here) then surely lying about the number of bedrooms a property has would tax evasion...

Hold on, let's not be hasty here - that would presumably follow that my one-bedroom flat would be classed as zero-bedroom. Hopefully I could get a council tax rebate smile
Probably not though as I make the mistake of working for a living and paying PAYE so I'm not exactly part of Labour's demographic.

It makes a mockery of the whole thing. The rest of the population have had to cut back and live to their means including downsizing properties if they are too expensive. Those receiving state benefits should have to do the same.

But but.... your stealing from the poorest... you should steal from those with jobs and give to the poorest.

Ahh Ricky Tomlinson. Such a nice man. Former fascist National Front member, Scargill chum, flying picket who ended up serving a couple of years in jail for his part in a disgusting violent attack that left a man with life changing injuries, new born Socialist worker and political martyr ( - as one of the Shrewsbury Two, protesting his reasons for being involved in the attack that got him jailed in the first place)
Comedian and funny man? My Arse!
I shall of course study his words closely

Not.

the council has ruled any rooms that are smaller than 50 sq ft (4.6m sq), will be considered as studies and not bedrooms.
So, the tax payer is now paying for people on lower incomes to have studies? Consider my flabber well and truly gasted.

As for the question about where the supply for 1 bedroom housing stock is going to come from, here's a novel idea: why don't those people who can't afford to pay the (full) rent on a private one bedroom flat, share a two (or more) bedroom flat with other similar people?

It's what people in the private sector have been doing for decades!

There is one good thing to come out of it, you know you can immediately discount anyone who calls it a bedroom tax as an idiot from the off.

Evidence? Otherwise I can imagine a comment like that could well land PH in very hot water.

That sort of depends on where in the country you are, how old you are, how you pay your rent, etc. In many many cases people will be completely unaffected. In other cases people will be very unhappy, either because the new system does not work for them ( and there is an emergency fund for this, plus I suspect the rules will get tweaked over time to remove the obvious anomalies) or (and I suspect this will be the source of most discontent) people just don't like being pushed to do better, get on, lift their eyes. In so many respects Britain suffers from the twin evils of an entitlement culture and a collective sense of no hope. There is no easy way to address either of those things.

Given the fuss the Brake woman made, calling someone even more high-profile a fascist, especially given the recent fallout over Paolo di Canio, without evidence (and I've never seen anything that suggests he is) is surely asking for a lawsuit.

Just seems to be the usual PH 'say what we like about anyone on the Left' rhetoric to me.

People really should do their own Googling rather than simply disbelieving others and demanding 'evidence'. It's not that hard.
