I find myself nursing an instinctive suspicion, a sense of an inherent willingness to dislike this fellow.
Well educated, well dressed, successful. All these things. Articulate too.
But he is very, very smooth.
There is something of the Blair about him. I find my bullcrap antenna go off when I see him on the telly..
Probably completely unfounded and without foundation. He may well be a splendid fellow. But there ya have it.

so he hasn't actually posted on that site for 7 years
Who knows?"A spokesman for Mr Umunna apologised for any offence caused and pointed out that he has not posted on the website since 2006."
"In 2008, he then asked for tips on "what's hot right now" in Miami as he was heading to the US for a ten-day trip."
"Though light-hearted in tone and context, and made long before he became an MP, Chuka accepts the choice of words used were not appropriate and apologises if any offence may have been caused."
"Though entirely intentional at the time, and forgotten long before he became an MP, Chuka accepts the choice of words used is embarrassing and regrets they got outside of the online forum he frequents."
Should've gone toSpecsavers post deleters.

If it was any other party with a white bloke he would have been accused of being racist by now..
Why?Too many people looking for divisive content which simply isn't there, a bit sad I think. Trash is trash, the colour of the skin is irrelevant. Everyone is now terrified of making a public comment without some wally labeling them a racist when the topic has nothing to do with race.
The only people that should be taking offence are the club owners and the trash. I have a feeling someone will see an opportunity to get in the papers with the headline "CHUKA SAYS I'M TRASH", followed by a double-page spread of them in a bikini

Nothing I disagree with there TBH, he makes a valid point.
As I understand it, this chap is a self-made millionaire. I've always thought we need more like him in parliament rather than those who have inherited their wealth and started their lives with great advantages. At least this chap might actually know what is required to get those with ability to the top, rather than those with rich parents. And, as you say, haven't we all thought along more or less the same lines? I like shopping in Waitrose because it is not ASDA/ALDI. I'm unlikely to be an MP so will not have to apologise for not wanting to be confronted by rude, aggressive people in every aisle.
On top of that the bloke would appear to have said that he was wrong to post the comments. The chap's gone up a little in my estimation.
I see the story is sourced from the Mail. I like to avoid Mail readers as well.

So, he can have the views he posted (fine, everybody is entitled etc) but was only wrong to air them publicly? Then as an MP with the benefit of hindsight and by virtue of a transparently tactical retraction he's gone up in your estimation - for being two-faced? At least by moving in political circles he won't be alone. And, as you say, haven't we all thought along more or less the same lines? I like shopping in Waitrose because it is not ASDA/ALDI. Pretty much. His views aren't offensive or anything. Different perhaps if he secretly harboured bad thoughts. He has said nothing requiring retraction in the first place, so the nature of this retraction doesn't bother me either.
