Saw him on telly, I thought he was an alternative comedian. Sounded like the love child of Arthur Scargil and Ben Elton.

He looks like the boy your daughter would bring home and wears check shirts
If you ran an off licence you would ask him for ID

I don't think our Owen is much interested in girls somehow.

I'm intrigued to know, just how do you imagine your average Socialist lives?
...
Spending every waking hour wondering how they can give more of their money away to those less fortunate than themselves?
Thinking what a great country we live in and wondering how much of that is due to the forced redistribution of wealth by the "Guv'mint"?

Its funny how socialists who get rich always want to force other people to give money to the poor but not do it themselves.

Right wingers as a whole give money to charity more often and give more when they do.

Any evidence of this, or is it just one of those "well known facts" which is trotted out?

[quote]Arthur Brooks, the author of a book on donors to charity, “Who Really Cares,” cites data that households headed by conservatives give 30 percent more to charity than households headed by liberals. A study by Google found an even greater disproportion: average annual contributions reported by conservatives were almost double those of liberals.

You've looked at the percentages donated, right?

Oh, and Arthur Brooks? This is the same man who argues that the more religious you are, the happier you are? Not sure I'd be citing him as an expert in very much at all.

Yup, its an indisputable fact that those Right-wingers do give money to charity more often and give more when they do. Its absolutely nothing to do with any tax concessions, as some may claim!

Yup, its likely true the average Socialist will spend hours considering how they will distribute what little money they have to those less fortunate. The caring sharing attitude. wink

Are you going to argue with his data or analysis at all?

There isn't any analysis. Is the 30% as a total amount or as a proportion of income? (for example)

so what stops the left wingers taking advantage of those same tax concessions?

I believe its the total amount, however even if its as a proportion of income it is still much more than the 6% difference in earnings between the two groups.

Wealthy (don't ask me to define wealthy again, please!)lefties very likely do use the same concessions. Its just that I responded to the earlier post which opined that only wealthy 'on the Right'contributed to charity.

But in the US (where most of this study was done) conservative voters earn 6% less, yet donate 30% more.

So if anything its that less wealthy people donate more money to charity.

US notions of conservative and liberal are rather different to ours. They don't really do 'socialism' either.

That is true, however I would say that their liberal is more or less equal to our socialist.

Their conservative movement seems to have a lot more integrity and organisation than ours.
