Why are we "Ring Fencing" Foreign Aid?
Discussion
Such a proud moment isn't it - brings a tear to the eye.

The UK has passed a bill that enshrines in law its commitment to spend 0.7% of its gross national income (GNI) on aid every year, making it the first G7 country to meet the UN’s 45-year-old aid spending target.
The international development bill passed its third reading in the House of Lords on Monday and will now receive royal assent. Britain met the 0.7% target for the first time last year when it spent £11.4bn – or 0.72% of its GNI – on overseas aid.

These needs raising on the Andrew Marr show, or Question Time with somebody from the Treasury.
The question should be phrased something like this....
"On what F*CKING planet is it right that we can make members of our regular army, police forces and fire brigade redundant on the premise of saving money, and then throw nearly 12 billion pounds abroad to people, who for the most part, won't even give us the time of day?"

Maybe cynical but foreign aid is no charity. There will be a return, maybe business deals cheaper goods to in or export.Politicians aren't charity workers.
There isn't a hope in hell that they could have increased it from £4Bn to £11.4Bn in just four years in a way that guarantees any efficiency at all. This money has been borrowed. My kids will spend most of their adult lives paying this money back.
The only way to drive this misguided leftiness out of the Conservative party is to withhold your vote.
At the same time as championing this multi-billion pound give away, the Tories are have gone past financial responsibility and are well in to the realms of abrogating state responsibility for state functions. That money could be spent helping the people of THIS country. I await the picture of a child refugee to blackmail us, just like the Global warming fanatics use cuddly Polar bears to emphasise the 'threat'.
Nobody would argue that we shouldn't send emergency aid following natural disasters or famine, but pretending that billions of pounds doesn't just disappear is nonsense. It's an absolute and utter scandal. But there are clearly a lot of fingers in a lot of pies.

Because thanks to the Bribery Act companies are not allowed to bribe foreign officials anymore, so we need the government to do it for us.

At the same time as we're throwing billions at corrupt countries, they're spending billions on arms. Much of the equipment they buy our own armed forces can only dream of.
I was IDEX a few weeks back - had a semi walking round that place. Lots of shiney new toys to play with. It was immense fun.None of which will be seen by your average squaddie.
The locals were snapping up gear like a hungry chubster in the snacks aisle in Tescos.
