Yes in one ear she's got every industrialist, manufacturer, major employer and union in Germany telling her to avoid tariffs at all costs and in the other ear an unelected Belgian drunk who helped cause the problem...

Hmm, lets think of ten reasons not to invest in France.

Oh wait I only need one...
Did you see Jerome Kerviel, the trader who lost SocGen $3bn, just got over $500k payout for unfair dismissal!!! rofl
Talking earlier this week with a guy we deal with in an MNC who have operations in France. Through legacy (equivalent of TUPE) contracts, they've ended up with three salespeople on a team, doing exactly the same job, but earning 25, 45 and 75k respectively. No way to motivate a team like that and, as you say, impossible to get rid of dead wood.

Over the years, their French operation has been responsible for some enormous fk ups too. Principally a hug, forced inventory write down.

Seems to be a lot of trouble in Turkey suddenly? Military action? Anyone got any handle on this? Bad news for the EU and Europe generally I would think, regrettably. Too close to home and very unbalancing. I hope it us eggagerated but too little detail around currently? Any thoughts?

Maybe they should be let into the EU a.s.a.p so they can 'integrate' with us?

Of course, thinking in terms of "Events", the EU management have only a tentative hold on the controls they grapple with.

Many things could happen far beyond their abilities to respond.

On the other hand ...

An opportunity.

Move NATO bases out of Turkey and into Greece.

Greece gets dosh and provides a useful function.

America pays part of the cost.

Several million people will have a lost a hot holiday destination - another opportunity to re-distrubute wealth in the EZ.

Meanwhile, Europe will be short of Transits so there's a manufacturing opportunity and perhaps Italy, Spain and Portugal could take advantage, although one might guess that Eastern European countries would be more likely candidates.

Soooo many possibilities.

Merkel has more food for thought tonight.

American officials are openly expressing frustration with Brussels over “painfully slow” negotiations on a proposed tariff-free agreement while hinting that Brexit has made the whole charade far less worthwhile in the eyes of Washington.

Then for good measure, in a separate development, troublesome Tusk sparked a diplomatic incident after poking Beijing with a "thinly-veiled barb" over a legal ruling concerning the South China Sea.

A senior US official compared a Europe without Britain to an America without California.

Give ol' Juncker some alcohol and sit back...

Indeed many Politcans would welcome the personal  advantages such events can bring! Something from everything being their mantra!  Certainly looks as is something is up but the deivil will be in the detail and there isn't much. All I can find is an outline on the Beeb Europe service it seems that all the staff are away to their beds?

EU's prison warder (Tusk again) has said the EU must chastise the UK for daring to leave the crumbling bloc. Anything else would be "lethal" for the EU as it could inspire other nation states to follow suit.

His comment alone will have done a lot to encourage Nexit and Czechout.

Slopping out may get interesting with Greece's credit card payment due soon (iirc).

I have to say I've never really thought of the UK as anything like the Mad State of Insanity.

However, as I get older I can begin to see certain parallels of thinking if not Geography and (overall) Climate.

Obviously our film industry is better - if that means anything at all.

I could have sworn there used to be a tin hat smiley at one time ....

These people really don't get it yet do they? Shame I thought Tusk might. The people who would respond 'positively' to threats and fear are already 'on side'.

Doesn't he see that the very fact that he makes that statement demonstrates that the EU has failed and convinces every 'leave' voter that they made the right decision, whatever the consequences?
