Greenpeace with an entirely predictable response....
And in this case, they are correct.

We can't meet the loony CO2 targets we have just agreed on and have gas powered anything.

Fossil fuels are cheap energy for now, renewables are not.

The Govt needs to choose one or the other.

Greenpeace's sole aim is the end of the industrial economy as we know it. If they want to live in the stone age without modern comforts and health, so be it. I may be selfish but I'd rather they didn't impose their ways on the civilised world.

Here we go again.

http://www.crawleyobserver.co.uk/news/anti-frackin...

The local TV covered a visit by car-crash-telly-expert Natalie Bennett last week - she was there to lend her whole-hearted support (poor buggers). They then interviewed the MD of the drill company who confirmed fracking would be illegal as they were staying shy of the 1000m threshold.

I expect it is too cold for a camp yet...

It's all a massive plot and fracking will kill everyone to death. Gainsborough has an oil field and these people don't like it. Slightly unhinged protesters aside this is an interesting programme about a mature english oil field.

Still surprised anyone wants to pursuit fracking in the UK given legal issues, population density and the marginal cost of production might well be under the current market price. Even if you are holding on for a rise in prices eventually it must be much easier to buy someone elses US operation in a consolidating industry.

I heard that programme, despite heavy presenter bias it was interesting that the only "anti" she could find was a student activist from Leicester!

Not sure I agree with that. I found myself thinking "how did this get aired by the BBC...somebody's for the chop there".

I thought the presenter was fairly even handed; she did ask the non-objectors some slightly odd questions that could be regarded as leading, but she hardly pressed the issue. If there was a failing it was in not questioning the objectors' motivation/reasoning more closely, although they didn't need any help in making themselves sound ignorant.

You've found a way to bake value without using gas or electricity?

I haven't but my point is neither have they; their witless mithering consisted of beseeching the Prime Minister to go renewable, or words to that effect. They were silent on how a nascent 100% renewable UK would power its gas ovens.

Easy, wood fuelled ovens or charcoal, if they had thought about it.

Possibly, but ovens fired with solid fuel are not greener and are much harder to control the temperature of.

Apart from doing a lot of low and slow BBQ and a little cooking in wood stoves, I would say it only takes practice. As for not being greener, menh
