How many stadiums will there be? Are they all going to be near Doha?

I found this when I was looking earlier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar_2022_FIFA_World...

It's only a small place and they are building a rail network so they shouldn't be too far from Doha...but will be even less to do out there than there is in Doha itself.

Just done a quick look around and there appears to be 110 hotels in Doha with an average 150 rooms each so that's 16,500-so that's players, refs, press, fifa, sponsors and assorted freeloaders taken care of..what about the paying punters?

Cruise ships, or in nearby Saudi/Bahrain.

Look, whichever way this gets painted, it is going to be a clusterfk of the highest order.

It simply doesn't make sense on any level.

Saudi and alcohol...umm don't think so. Though you can buy some expensive bottled water! That could be the country in the region with even less to do than in Doha.

So if you can't drink in between those games (especially sleeping in a tent)-what is there to do?

Jet-skiing,scuba diving, track days, dune bashing, sunbathing, drinking by the pool, night clubs, brunches, shooting, water skiing, parasailing, wake boarding, you name it you can do it here...the problem is it'll cost you an arm and a leg to do any of them. It's ok if you live out here because the high salary allows you to do these kinds of things but as a visitor, spending 40 quid for an hour on a jet ski would probably be a bit steep for someone on a budget. At 8 pounds a pint it is easy to spend a hundred quid in the afternoon heat just on beer!

If the pedestrian pace at which the Lusail development seems to be progressing then the whole thing with be an epic clusterfk.

Maybe they can build some more badly needed 4 lane superhighways to essentailly nowhere, and re-route the traffic on the outskirts of Doha onto newly built roads while they rebuild the original roads six inches to the left.

As well as the jet ski-ing, there's always Sheikh Faisals museum of bizarre brick-a-brack to keep the football types happy. (the fossils are worth a look though).

well all be told its been a roaring success but the reality will be mostly likely very very different.

Those 4 lane superhighways are unpoliced and have no speedcameras...personally I think we need more hehe

Right we all know that football in general is corrupt but Blatter take the bloody prize,

So Qatar want to host the world cup, whats the first question you would ask them?

Can a country with a population of only 2m support a world cup?
Should a country with no footballing culture host a world cup?

No, you think someone would have asked if it might be a bit too toasty in the fking desert in fking june to play fking football.

I am annoyed.
The question should be asked, how much has Blatter got in a Qatari bank account?

Qatar itself may have been the wrong choice (based on infrastructure and hotel capacity), but the idea that football has to stick to the traditional locations is very arrogant. It's the WORLD cup, and as such it needs to represent the global nature of the game.

As to the weather, just hold it in the winter and tell the moaning leagues to stick it. FFS, it's the most important tournament in the world.

Yes but Qatar!?

It's too hot for sport! And they have too small a population to support much of a sporting fanbase. WALES has a 50% larger population, can you imagine holding a WC in a country smaller than Wales!?

Football is just going the way of Formula 1 where the fans do not matter at all and the highest bidder gets the games/races for a TV audience to watch.
