And the news story just won't go away...

Garcia quits.

Is it just the UK media that cares about this?

I though adidas were asking questions but presumably Qatar airways will fund the Qatar world cup and the Russians won't care much about sponsors or corruption allegations.

FIFA is a corrupt joke, but until some pressure is put on the leadership to go then everything will just carry on. Perhaps Platini will step up, but given he likes a free watch or two then I am not sure anything would change, sadly the upper levels of football are so wealthy and divorced from reality that they have no comprehension how they appear to ordinary people.

IMO. If the sponsors pulled out, Blatter would blink, but find other sponsors. If England, Germany, Spain, Italy & Holland et al. pulled out of qualifying, Blatter would fall. And they may pull out because the clubs and THEIR sponsors won't want their seasons ruined by the World Cup.

Maybe somewhat tenuously related, but I thought the below gives an interesting (if again not surprising) outlook on watching sport(s) in Qatar:

I hope he does, but he'll probably get sued by splatter because the report will officially be the property of FIFA.

Surely some sponsors must be reviewing their position. The whole point of sponsorship is PR and Marketing and being seen in the same light as Fifa can't be beneficial.

The sponsors go and Fifa/Blatter crumbles as its all about the $$$.

I think the World Cup is big enough for sponsors to think that maybe they will stick with the Titanic for a tad longer, see what the band are playing, good tune, might refloat the boat for a while....... hop across to the next boat when it comes along, lots of money to still be made. Sod the sport.

Cynical? Moi?

BBC said:
Fifa executives have unanimously agreed to publish a "legally appropriate version" of a report into allegations of World Cup bidding corruption.

So lots of black felt tip lines through the important bits and "Its all Beckhams fault," scrawled in thick red pen across the cover.

So basically it will read:

FIFA Report said:
"----------------------- gave money to ----------------- in respect of -------------------- which in turn concerned --------------------- ---------------------- and --------------------------------- with the ultimate aim of ensuring that --------------------------- voted for -------------------------"

Why not publish the peoples names who voted for Qatar and then grant BBC Panarama an 30min interview with each person to explain why they voted for Qatar instead of the losing contenders, then only reason I can see they did is an envelope.

And how much are they going to have to pay off the clubs to forgo the champions league
monies which will be lost out.

Somehow this has got a long way to run yet!

Only acceptable solution in my view is that the 2018 tournament is taken off Qatar and given to a nation (or combination) that can provide the necessary at short notice, plus Blatter resigns along with all his cronies who voted for Qatar.

What are the chances? :rolleyeslaughshootsillypunchbangheadgrumpygetmecoat

I think you're right on the format of the report tekno but it'll be interesting reading all the same. Looks like FIFA are delaying it while they consider charges, the outcome of which will be interesting in itself.

Almost right, except the names and country not blanked out will be England and anyone connected to the England bid.

New Swiss anti-corruption law voted in 7 days ago, aimed at FIFA. Guess we'll see how this shakes out.

You bet. If anybody thinks FIFA are about to come clean, then think again.

Until the report is released IN FULL, without any redactions (the latest way of saying - bits we'd really prefer you not to see that would otherwise mean us getting pushed off the gravy train) then international teams across the globe should stick together and refuse to cooperate with FIFA.

For the sake of football, because according to Blatter, that's what's most important here - the sporting press should borrow some of FIFA's own vocab and declare an incomplete report as 'inadmissable'!
