I can't help thinking that if Tony Blair (evil) were still in charge, we'd have invaded Qatar by now.

They may have wingers of mass destruction hidden away somewhere

The last WC bid process was a corrupt shambles; we all know that. However, FIFA will not back down; we also know that. The reality is that most teams will have big enough squads to continue playing even when the WC is on. The bigger issue for them is that no-one will watch the games if the WC is on so TV companies won't pay as much for the rights - that's the issue - money.

The tournament will only last 4.5 weeks, after 2 weeks of group games England will have flown home and only 16 teams will be left. After 3 weeks only 8 teams will be left. So, 3 week break in the middle of the season to cover the bit where the most fixtures take place; give up the League cup for one season (or make participation optional for PL teams) and you could still fit in the remaining fixtures with maybe a one-week extension to the season. After all, teams are often required to play 3 times in 10 days over Christmas, so if you compress the fixture schedule at the beginning and end of the season, when the weather is better and injuries less likely, you'll still fit in 38 games.

75% of the players at last years WC played their club football in Europe

There were
108 players from the Premier League although I think it was only 7 that were there for the full duration of the WC
81 - Seria A
72 - Bundersliga
62 - La Liga
43 - Ligue 1

so those fans who stay for the final will be trying to get home on Christmas eve or later. Its nice to know that football is always putting the fans first.
I would think Sky and the likes of BT will not be too happy about this

I'm afraid I see it much more plainly than that. The leagues will bend over and take it, as will the national federations. Hell, let's not forget, Platini, the head of UEFA, voted for Qatar.
Sadly this will be the truth. Corruption throughout and not enough good guys to stand up to them.

Sepp Blatter, he even sounds like the bad guy laugh

Although I have no doubt corruption and bribery exists in all levels of big business and governments, it's rare to find an organisation so blatant and unashamed about it
